7841, Anyone know a good taxidermist? Posted by stumpy041486, Sat Apr-22-06 01:24 PM
hey
I don't post here much, but i read the forum all the time. I have learned a great deal on here. I caught my first 10lb bass today and I was wondering if anyone knew of a good taxidermist that does replicas. I live in MS by the way. I've seen the local taxidermists mounts and they are ok but not great and i want this to look really good. I caught her on a buzzbait by the way..she killed it right at the boat...i think she might have been on the bed because here tail was really bloody.
Thanx

Thanks for the plug Dan but I only do my own mounts now and I havent done one in a couple years. I would recomend Lyon's and Ohaver and Garry's fish mounts. These guys are not OK. They are world class. Both are in California. I have seen some work from lake fork taxidermy that is realy good too. When you look at a mount you should be in awe. If it just looks ok imagine how crappy it would look next to a world class mount. To me its worth paying the extra money. Taxidermy is the worst thing you can be cheap about. You absloutley get what you pay for.

The replica Ron Kelly did for me in 1997 (12.5 pounds, boated at Lake Fork), remains marvelous to this day. I have seen others of his work, and those have been very good also. I recommend him without hesitation. Ron has provided molds for other taxidermists throughout the U.S. Artistic Wildlife Gallery Ron Kelly 5138 Hwy.69 South Greenville, Texas 75402 (903) 883-3855 www.fishcreations.com/

Hi Guys,
My 13.6 from Lower Otay was done by Lyon's and Ohaver here in San Diego, it was caught in 1996, it is still the same as when i picked it up. These guys are truly artists and well worth the money. You will not be disapointed.
Congratulation on your first DD!

Some of my friends had their fish done by Robert's Fish Mounts. I saw the mounts and they looked really good. I'm pretty sure Fish Chris got his 18.4 replica done by Robert's also and I saw the pics of it and it looked really good - lifelike not fake looking. Here's the info on Robert's

Here's a pic of my buddy's mount, a 16lber

Hey Rob, I wonder how many mounts do you have? With all the double D's you have caught in the past. I would guess you might have a couple???

No stuffed fishies for me... I told Mrs. Swimbait I would want one if I ever got one over 20 though :D
Once we buy a house and I have a fishing area of the garage or whatever I might consider looking for a replica of my 18. The thing is, where do you get a mount that looks like this? It's not really a normal fish and I just wouldn't feel right about having a mount of a fish that didn't look like my fish.

Looks like they would need to take a mold of a basketball :-)
I'm sure you will get your 20+ fish someday Rob, and not from Dixon either :P

Rob you would be suprised. I am prety sure if you checked with lyons and roberts one of them could match your fish within 1/2 inch of either measurement
