9705, Stinger hook for Stocker Trout

Just got 2 of the 9" Stocker Trout. The stock hook on it looks a little week to me in the way of sharpness. Is just a stinger hook tied from the eye ok? I've heard some guys just cut the hook off. Thanks.

I havent heard of people cutting off the hook. A stinger can be rigged as described here:
