Yes to both. I have a 17.5 cannoe with special bracket that clamps onto the gunrail, with piece of wood to clamp the motor to tightly. Got it local at Sonoma Outfitters Santa Rosa years ago. Works great to mount the motor on.

Also have a motor mount on my Pontoon Boat and DO use my trolling motor every time as long as I am not competing.

Works great on both. Only thing if there is a thing is that it is hard to position yourself comfortably and be able to stear the motor. The handle is always under your arm pit on the cannoe and stuck into my back (almost) on my Pontoon boat.

My girlfriend said to me in the cannoe when it was new, when do we get to use the oars and paddle? I said when the battery run out! :-)

Hope that helps. My motor is a 36# thrust and gets my 9' pontoon up to a whopping 3.5 MPH. Can almost pull a skier! :-)
