11634, TOC prefish report
Posted by KDOG, Sun Nov-10-02 03:42 PM
Me and Andy went out to clearlake this morning, to brave the roughest i have seen it this year. the morning started out calm. with no wind it was like glass, with some rain. caught two fish right off the bat, a 3 and a 2, then did not catch anything for a while, started to get windy and a little choppy. so head back cuz it was cold. hit the spot where i caught thos 2 fish earlier and got another fish about a 14"er
then went out to the broken off solitary pole on the way in, casted rat-L-trap, nuthin switched over to my crank and 2 cast later i hooked a solid fish, around 3 1/2. then headed in, and waited for Andy to come in. i was dinkin around on the shore and was casting in these little weed pockets by the back with my worm. and thunk set the hook and i land a solid 5#. i was like whoa. it was kinda tough awhile between bites. but go sooooo rough out huge swells, andy couldnt make it back all the way so go up on shore down the bank a ways and got in. I wont tell how andy did in consideration of his success. maybe he will tell you all before the TOC.

Thank Kev for the report.

I was also on the lake Sunday and didn't have quite the success you did. Went with Benno and we ended up hitting a couple areas but b/c of the rough weather didn't make it South like we were hoping.

Did kind of a team effort with him working with slower baits (primarily jigs) with myself working reaction baits (spinnerbaits and cranks). He found a decent bite and for the day ended up with 5 fish but would have only gone about 9 lbs. I did not find a reaction bite at all except for one in the afternoon but it was good!

With the wind blowing and waves crashing against a wall, it created a little current. The water was shallow but I thought what the heck and heaved my spinnerbait over the wall then hopped it over to the water on the other side. As it dropped over a good fish blows up on it! The fish actually came out of the water and inhaled my spinnerbait from above! It was short and fat so I didn't realize it was very big and it came straight for the boat. After getting some additional tension on the line I felt the distinct 'thump thump thump', yes!

We netted the fish and yes! It was a good one! It also completely inhaled the spinnerbait which I've never had a fish done before. For that matter I didn't think you could hook a fish when it did that!

Anyway, it was 7 lbs. 1 oz. Sweet fish, hopefully I'll catch it again at the TOC!
