21250, Here's My Boat
Posted by woodsac, Fri Jun-11-04 03:41 PM
O.K. I stayed up late last night, got up early this morning, and worked all day. Here's what I've come up with so far. Right now I am not using the livewell bar, I only got to fish 2 tournies this year so I think I can do without until I'm ready the next time.

I mounted the Lowrance X67c with a Ram 1" rail adapter and Ram swivel mount. The wiring is routed under the entire bottom of the boat to prevent any overlapping of wire. The rod rack holds 6 rods, and my net on top of the left pontoon. I angled each rod holder slightly away from the center to make room for my trolling motor. The trolling bracket is just a 2x4 with some really strong L brackets held in place with 3/8 bolts and lock nuts.

The rear deck and the rod rack are held in place with hose clamps. The transducer is kinda iffy right now. It's mounted to a piece of pvc behind the seat. I know this boat won't sit as low in the water as my old one so the pvc might not be long enough to get the tranducer in the water. x( I'm gonna get it wet tomorrow and see how everything works. If anyone want close ups of anything let me know. I'll take a few shots tomorrow when it's in the water.

Thank you to everyone for all the help and suggestions!!!!!!!!!

Looks good Woodsack !!

Just make sure you tie it down real good. Would'nt want you to try it out on the pavement before you hit the water.. GOOD LUCK !!

Lets here about your first time out !!

Looks great Jake. My only concern would be your transducer. Seems like it would be easy to damage it if you hit some wood or something while cruising around backwards. Does your pvc (which your transducer is on) swing from front to back or have some give? Mine is not on pvc but on a bent 1/4 inch stainless steel rod and the weight of the transducer keeps it down in the proper position. When i hit something it just swings out of the way and no harm done. Ive hit a lot of wood etc. and not realized it untill i see my tranducer swinging out of the water. I konw it has saved my transducer on more than one occasion and i dont have to change directon when i get hung up.

Boat + Pavement= :-( x( ;(

Took it out yesterday to a small pond. The transducer didn't sit in the water, but I made a spare bracket the night before that was longer. Once everything was on the boat, the transducer was about 3" under water. Dave, right now I'm using my old bracket, and it allows the transducer to move around on the pvc, unlike the one pictured.

When I tried rowing the boat constantly went to the right? I noticed that my right pontoon was about 3-4" further back then the left. I don't know if that's what caused it or not. Today I'm gonna make sure the oars are lined up exactly the same.

I didn't like how close the foot rests were together. Makes it real hard to get my fins in and out of the water. Also my legs rubbed up against the bars all day. So, I turned the bars so the bend is facing up and wrapped the bars in pipe insulation. That should solve both problems.

Overall I was very pleased, but the wind was blowing about 30 mph so it was hard to really get a feel for it. Fishing was slow. About 20 fish, but only 8 were 12-15" the rest were small.

IFISH say's,

Yo' Woodsac, Look's like you got a nice lil set-up there bro. If you're pontoon was back 3"-4" than the other one, then yeah, that's why the boat went to the right. You want to try and line up the ends of the pontoons so they're as even with eachother as possible. Also, When you do put your livewell deck on there, and Misc gear, you'll want to re-position the pontoons for the anticipation of " water in the well " which could be anywhere from 50lbs - 100 lbs of weight. If it's a heavy weight, push the pontoons toward the back of the boat so It can better support the weight of gear, and it won't dip back when you row and create serious drag. I found out the hard way first day out when I got mine, and it was on a Skanky weather delta day. Hope I helped bro.

hey woodsac, what did you use to make the rear deck? plywood?
also, what do you think about mounting the transducer onto the pontoon like in the fatcat pictures that have been posted?

Ya, the rear deck is plywood. I don't see a problem mounting the transducer that way. Just make sure that it's easily removeable. Remember, when you 'park' your boat, it's a lot heavier then tube. You don't want all that weight resting on the transducer.
