25592, Trolling Motor & mount.......
Posted by Deacon, Mon Jan-24-05 12:49 AM
I had a offer to buy a brand new Minnkota 38 lbs thrust motor for cheap. I wanted to ask a few questions about it before I buy...

What does anyone reccomend for thrust if mounted on a kick..

Has anyone mounted/used a motor, how do you like it? Pros and cons?

Any advise would be really really helpful....

Thanks in advance

Deacon

My opinion, 38 lbs is WAY to much for a kick! But better to have too much than not enough I guess?

Pro's:
Cover a lot more water
Allows you to fish in the heaviest winds
Let's you get to those new spots without using all your
energy just to get there

Con's:
You get used to using it in the wind :+
You have to reach behind you to operate
It moves you faster than you need to go

My 30 lb Minnkota moves me faster than I can fish on the lowest speed. If I make a long cast with a crankbait, I am usually really behind be bringing it in at a medium to fast speed. But, I live in the desert where we have high winds daily! People don't realize how hard the wind blows here. Without my troller, I would only get to fish 1/2 as much.
