31615, Who is fishing in the mud this weekend
Posted by bassinzink, Tue Jan-03-06 11:50 AM
I'll be going out somewhere this weekend even though most of the water around us is prolly pretty muddy. I've been thinking now may be the time to go and hit up one of the lakes for some fun.

John did you and castro make it out to Berryessa or did the rain and wind force ya off the lake?

What do you guys think all this rain is doing to the fish right now?

I know me and swampy decided against going out on saturday- I was taking a page out of the Wong man's playbook and being a wussy.

I hit up Folsom yesterday. I have never seen that lake so muddy. I did not get any fish but I think the changing water levels (massive drop before the storm , massive rise after) have the fish pretty messed up. I marked a lot of suspended fish over 40 feet of water but could not get them to bite.

How much did Folsom rise during and after the storms?

I heard that the lake came up over 20 feet on Sunday alone. Someone on NCBF.com posted that the lake was rising 18 inches an hour over the weekend. Last friday all the ramps were at there low water positions, Yesterday most of the ramps were closed as the docks had not been moved up and were either submerged or 25 feet from the bank.

Hey Buzzfish, you need to talk to some one and tell them to start doing swim meets at lakes instead of at the pool. After all water is water no mater where you swim!!! :+

No doubt! The only time I took my daughter out in a tube she spent the whole time swimming around in it. Never dropped a hook in the water; she was already having too much fun!

Fortunately my cabin is on a high spot in this neighborhood. I didn't get any water in the door. A friend from work wasn't so lucky. His entire cabin was submerged and he lost everything. ;(

31650, How 'bout that - 51 bucks for a f#@%ing fishing license??!!!!

License-34.90, delta stamp-5.50, 2nd-rod stamp-*10.75* - damn! Give me a break! Gonna be plenty of kids (over 16) saying "SCREW THAT!" if this keeps up!

p.s. Chris - did you get my e-mail? Glad to hear you were spared from any flood damage. Sounds like that neighborhood pretty much got the worst of it all!

Wow,thats crazy.I`m going to get mine before this weekend and was curious what they cost this year. How much is the lifetime one?Thats probably the way to go these days with it going up every year.It would be my luck though, the year after I get it I`ll die, lol.

what you buying the 2 rod stamp for? That right there was 10 bucks. If you fish 100 days a year it still only ends up being only 40 cents a day that is if you don't get the extra rod stamp, then its 50 cents a day, which is still better than a day at the movies, ballpark, etc. It's all the other crap that makes our sport exspensive, but I agree this is an easy one to cry about because we know our license money isn't going to do what they say it will.

Maybe Bill but I'd bet you would die fishing and happy!

Seriously though, a lifetime license for me is $575.75. You can then either buy the stamps you need each year or pay another $261.25 for "Additional Fishing Priveldges" which is the same as lifetime stamps for bay-delta, 2nd rod, salmon punch card, steelhead report card, and the ocean enhancement stamp. My cost for both of these would be $837. At the current license rate this pay for 16.74 years of licenses assuming no rate increases. Assuming my liver lasts another 17 years (OK, call it a long shot) I would at least break even on it.

Look like if you can come up with the initial bucks the lifetime license is a pretty good deal.

I got a lifetime license with all the stamps 2 years ago, they were even cheaper then. It's a pretty good deal when you do the math on it. Maybe in 10 years they decide a license is going to cost $200, you never know.

IFISH say's,

Dear god, I only pray that the licenses don't go up to $200 smackers in 10 years. Although I know it's just a " What If " scenario, it's still scary to think about. :o *shutter*

We are just lucky to be living in the good ole USA. Some countries only the rich can fish and then only in small designated areas. If you think about it, you cant even get out of a halfway decent restaurant for less than 50 bucks for dinner. Our fishing licenses are a great deal. I would even say they were cheap!

...for this crotchety old dude! Y'just won't let me get away with my griping anymore, will ya??!! Geez! x(

Of course, I still do think it could put a damper on the interest of the 'youngsters' coming in. Naturally, for me, I'll pay what I have to. In any case, I guess I'd better start puttin' that $51 to work real soon to get that ratio of dollars-per-day/per fish down as low as I can!!! :P
