Congrats CZ :9 What nobody mentioned yet was that CZ won the federation tourney as a non-boater. That's a real accomplishment so congrats man!

Thanks a bunch guys here is my report from the tourney.

Well what can I say, I love draggin fer dem spotted bass!!! LOL

Thanks Mr. Lake for letting me partner up with you for the tournament it was a fun weekend.

On Friday Lake and I got going to Oroville and it seemed the closer we got the higher the temperature rose. When we finally arrived at the campground it was a pleasant 110 degrees. We set up camp and ate hot links mmmm they were real good.

Saturday morning we said forget camping the next night and broke down camp before we got on the water. During prefish Lake and I fished spooks and vixens all morning and just slammed the fish one after another. I finally stuck a good one I guess, cause Lake was like hey dude that one is over the slot, however it still wasn’t very exciting to catch a 2lbs fish. We did get some absolutely vicious bites on the spooks, which was cool to watch, when a spot wanted that thing it straight up killed it. I decided I better get ready to possibly draw a worm dragger so I started to play around with a few different senkos and worms to find something that I could catch fish on. I found it in the senko I was tossing it wacky and just fishing it on a slack line and checking for a fish occasionally. John was giving me crap for being a plastic dragger and such but I’m glad I took the time to get some confidence in a bait and color. We got off the water and went and got a hotel room Air Conditioning and Korean BBQ was the best part of the rest of the day.

On Sunday we showed up to the ramp early in the morning for the draw and meeting. I got a great draw, I would be fishing with Sieg Taylor. He had some fish going way up the lake and he brought a little bit smaller aluminum G3 boat so it took us awhile to get there, but once we started fishing the fun began. I started off throwing a spook and immediately started getting some bites and was able to put a few keepers in the boat pretty quickly. We bounced around a few spots as we went on our way to our main spot for the day. Once we got to Sieg’s spot we started to slow down and that’s when the fishing got a little exciting well as exciting as spotted bass fishing gets. I was just throwing a little senko on 6lbs test and letting the thing slowly fall next to some big bluff walls. I got into the fish pretty good and about half way through the day I sat down to eat something real quick and Sieg looked back and I said oh I’m just grabbing a quick bite to eat then I’ll get back to fishing and he responded yeah its all good you have this thing won, I didn’t believe him as I only thought I’d have around 9lbs, but it ended up holding. I learned my lesson by not getting in the option money, but I’m fine with that it was my first time at Oroville and I didn’t think I’d have a shot. I weighed in 9.64 with a big fish about 2.2 so just a bunch of decent spotted bass. Thanks to the region 3 tourney director Mark Langer for conducting the tournament and big thanks to Mr. No Sweat Mist Sieg Taylor for being an awesome guy to fish with. He made sure I had room to cast even though we were trying to stay close to the bank and was just an all around cool guy to fish with.

Oh Lake, dragging for spots rocks!!!! LMFAO

No Bryan, it was just a region 3 California Bass Federation event. There is a whole bunch of hoops you have to get through to make it to that tournament. These are great events though and by being a member to a FLW club you are able to enter these tournaments. You get the opportunity as a nonboater to fish with some great guys and learn a bunch at a cheaper price than some of the tournament circuits out there.

In short form this is the road.

The state is divided in to seven regions that comprise the California Bass Federation. Tournaments are held for each region to determine the winning anglers. These top anglers fish a state championship. The winners are part of a western division team which then competes with the other divisions (Eastern, Southern, Northern, and Mid-West.) The Winners are then on the road to the FLW Cup, BFL All American and BassFan Weekend Warrior Championships.

Just to make sure I've got the picture right:
He'd have to get AOY or just win 1 tourney in a region to move into state contention and so on up the line. If he can now move onto State level, what tourney(s) could he enter to move onto Western Div?
Tight lines,
Wade

PS: Chris Play it til it's in the net!

I explaioned all this over and over last year when I went to state. Here ya go in short form.

To go to the state tournament:
Be in the top 14 in your region to advance

State Classic is at Clear Lake. This event has all the top 14 anglers from all 7 regions. top 12 advance to the western divisionals and are the California State Team.

The State Classic is an awesome experience and I really hope CZ and myself can be there. CZ is currently in 11th with 2 events left.

If any of us are lucky enough to make the state team we can explain more then. For now you'll have to look it up yourself at www.californiabass.org

Hey Zelenka,

Congrats on the win, terry and I couldn't make it up to oroville for the fed, but it's rad to know that you stuck it to them as a no boat. Awesome job, and see you at clear lake.

Nice job dude!from the back of the boat none the less. Were ya using that powell rod you won? :)

Posted by bassinzink, Tue Jun-27-06 10:47 AM
As a matter of fact yes I was Billy, I used the powell I won for fishing the little worm and the powell rod I bought for spooking. I've really enjoyed those two rods a lot and caught every fish I had on Sunday with those two bad boys.

Wade I don't actually know the flow of everything.

Chris, nice job on the win. Sieg said you had the right colored Senko and kicked his butt with it. Just goes to show that you don't need a boat to do well in these tournaments. Congratulatuions again and see you at Clear lake next month.

Pat.

Wow -- another tuber shows 'em how it's done! }(

Man, we're getting quite a list of guys who started in tubes & have gone on to make their presence known, both locally and *NATIONWIDE*! Keep it up, guys! Good to know I'm in the great company of some awesome achievers! Lookin' forward to fishin' more with y'all.

Just don't forget your ROOTS! Y'start winnin' boats & stuff, & we're gonna have to start recruiting like crazy! :+ Looks like both our clubs are on to something -- we're developing some awesome young talent, with plenty of pro prospects in our midst!

Rip them lips, boys, rip 'em good! :D
