47238, BnT 2016 Officers and schedule
Posted by mteman, Wed Oct-07-15 04:52 AM
Since Bill opened the can let's discuss 2016 a little.

Jeff is going to remain as El Presidente, and I would like to be the first to say thanks to Jeff for taking on the role this year. He has done a remarkable job as pres. and I'm sure he will do so again in 2016.

Jeff is going to need all of your support in the upcoming season.

I am going to be stepping down as TD and I believe Rob is stepping down as asst TD. We never did have an official VP for 2015 and Rob and myself took on that role together.

So... We will need a new TD, assistant TD and a VP for 2016.
Any volunteers?

Here is a little incentive to step up for BnT!
The club schedule is not going to be voted on anymore by the membership, in fact the permit application for 2016 is already in to DFG.
The club scheduled for the next season is going to be determined by the club officers in the current season from now on, starting with the 2016 season.

If you want to have any say in upcoming schedules then you will need to participate in the club as an officer. Pres, VP, TD and Asst TD will be the only ones who get a vote in the schedules.

The reason behind this is, it will eliminate one giant headache for the president and officers and streamline the annual year end meeting. We usually spend so much time discussing schedules that other important club business is overlooked. The annual meeting is supposed to address these other issues.

We thank you in advance for your understanding!

Now let's start talking :7

Ok well since I didn't have any input on the 2016 schedule then what's the schedule? I would like to see the 2016 proposed schedule, And if we would have been having regular meetings then we could have been dealing with these issues.

schedule will be revealed at the meeting after the TOC. Still waiting DFG approval of the permit.

I don't agree with not having a say (as a paid member)in where the club fishes. In the past there was a meeting with with the members present and the schedule was voted on that night in a couple hours at most. The schedule for 2016 is what it is now but I feel should be handled a little different in the future.
What are the other issues that are being overlooked ?

Other issues?
How about some more participation in the club, besides voting on a schedule and fishing each event!

We only started asking for members input on the schedule in the last few years. When John Lake was president, for about a decade, the schedule was made up by the officers, no vote. When Paul Mibach was pres and I was VP, for about 5 or 6 years, the schedule was made by the TD's and not voted on by members. I know because I was also the TD for the delta region as long as it existed. I made the schedule every year for the delta region without members ever voting on it. I think voting started when Rob Linden was pres. and continued as I was pres. This year we had to get the schedule in early so no vote.

I notice no one has volunteered yet for any of the club officer positions that we need people for, for next year. To me this is, and always has been an issue.

If we get some new blood running the club you can do whatever you like.

BTW, your membership $$$ mostly goes to FLW, TBF and the Cal fed. This is so everyone is insured during the tournaments. BnT only collects $5 per person for your annual dues.

Communication?
Here is rule regarding meetings right from the website.
'C. Meetings
BnT will hold a monthly on the water meeting during their tournament season.'

These meetings take place every month at the tournaments, after the awards are handed out at the end of the day. I guess most people are in a hurry to get home, unless they cashed a check, so they miss the monthly meetings.

Now let's talk about who is going to be your TD, asst TD and VP for 2016. Any takers?

Change is good!

Mitch, can you take a moment and explain the duties of the TD, asst. TD and the VP ?

Maybe it's time for me to step up. This is a great club with awesome members. I'd hate to loose it.

Thanks, Wayne

Sure thing Wayne, thanks for asking.

VP is there to back up the pres.
The VP will help out with things like ordering trophies, securing the open release boat and just be a general right hand man.

TD is the guy who has the scale runs the monthly tourneys.
TD responsibility is to communicate on the forum the tourney location, check in time and weigh in times before the tourney and keep the roster. Do the check in's in the morning and collect entry fees, set up the scale and do the weigh ins, divide and distribute the payouts after the weigh in.

Assistant TD is the TD backup.
Asst TD has a second scale in case of a failure of the TD's scale and will take TD responsibility in case the TD can't make the tourney. The assistant also weighs in the TD's fish to make sure there are no conflicts.

That about sums it up!

Well I have been there and there has been no meetings!!!! I also talk to Jeff about having a meeting and when that was going to be and it was told to me after next tournament but no meeting. The way it was done in the past is in the past. We have alot of new members me included and I want to be informed of what is going on or it's not a club.

Bill,
this forum is the official communication forum for Bass-n-Tubes. If you take a look there hasn't been much official club discussion on here by anyone lately. Not like in the past that's for sure.

Meetings after tournies always happen, as informal as they are, it's when we discuss what is next on the schedule, and if anyone has something they want to talk about we do it then.
I believe the schedule and the lack of a vote is what you are most concerned about. This year we were asked by DFG to get our permit application in as early as possible so we handled it the way we did.
You might just like the schedule we have come up with.

As far as not being a "club" because we don't have monthly meetings, that is your opinion. We have members spread out all over northern Cal., so a monthly meeting isn't really feasible since only a handful of members would be able to make it.
This has been the way it has always been since the club began way before I was involved.
If you want to be involved in the daily running of the "club" then taking on some responsibility is a way to do so.
There are always e-mails and phone calls between the officers going on behind the scenes to get the club business done. Things like, updating the club roster with TBF and making payments, ordering trophys for the tourney winners, scheduling release boats, securing permits from DFG and the bureau of reclamation, securing donations for the open raffle, designing and ordering TOC qualifier prizes, etc., etc., etc..

I will say thank you again to you for getting club T's made this year.
That was very cool and everyone, including myself, are grateful.

We are going to have our annual meeting after the TOC, as we have always done, and that will be the time to bring up any thing you want to see change.
Hopefully we get a good turnout this year!

I have no problem volunteering for the Vice President position if no one else wants it.

Topper, Sal, thanks for stepping up. Your names are officially in the hat.
If we get some others interested then we may just have an election this year at the December meeting. That would be new! :7

I'd love to help, obviously this is my first year back since 2002 but I usually attend about half the events due to time constraints. To hold a role is there a mandatory attendance factor?
