Last week I was pre-fishin' Clear Lake when a friend (Samurai TI) and I came up on a dock and started to fish it. There were these two Mallards kicking around right next to the dock. A male and a female. Well, about that time there was a huge SPPPLLOOOOOSHSH - flap flap flap flap.
A HUGE fish, easy double digits, had come up and grabbed the feet and some of the tail feathers of the male duck. A FULL GROWN male duck. The duck got away but my nerves never did.
No, I didn't get her, but I figure I didn't have the right tackle for her.

Next time I go to Clear Lake I'm takin a duck decoy with 10/0 trebles on it! HAR!!

No bull about the fish though. That thing was huge!

Hear that rob? Might need to talk Shaw into making some duck plugs... (I love how everybody always thinks of Rob when a bass tries to eat something huge, har har). Makes you wonder what other forage them big dawgs eat. I know shad couldn't possibly fill their bellies all the time. Big crawdads maybe. We all know bass wanna use as little energy as possible when they get their food (and that usually means bigger prey, more bang for the buck), so who knows what they're eatin. Small children, float tubers, trolling motors...

Speakin of big crawdads, Todd Crockett sent some unreal prototype 10 inch twin tail yamamoto grubs my way last week. Now I don't know if crawdads get that big but who cares! Just another something to have in the tackle box.
I would love to have seen that duck getting munched on, how rad is that???
Mike has made some 14 and 15" Slammers in the past although I don't have one. But if I did, I'd chuck 'em on my T100 with 40lb.

Rob,
Where was I readin... I read somewhere, either one of Cooch's stories on ncbf, or something like that, and the guy said he CAUGHT a huge, 12" crawdad on like texas rig or something. As I recall, it was in Washington, or some far away land. I guess they do get pretty big though.

Now, now John, let's not go there!
BTW - I'm sorry but I'm going to have to take the big fish this weekend. Maybe next tourney!
