70, Los Banos tournament issues
Posted by , Mon Sep-18-00 09:22 AM
Last year there was a problem with the fact that they do not open the gates till 6:00am. After we voted this lake in back in January at our meeting. I spoke with a Rich @ the lake about helping us to get the gates open earlier. "It wouldnt be a problem" I was told. I called today to let them know it was this weekend, well Rich no longer works there. The guy spoke to today will not cooperate with me.I dont know if we want to miss the key fishing time and fish from say 7-5 or force everyone to camp(if we camp we will be inside the locked gate)or do we change the location? If we change where?(nowhere in Santa Clara County) need to make a move quickly.let me know

This is a tuff call. There is always the delta but there have been a lot of tourneys there already. I wouldn't mind fishin 7 to 4 or 5 at Los Banos but maybe other people would. The swimbait bite usually gets good in the afternoon anyway =). My only other ideas are Spring Lake or Berryessa. Too bad all the Santa Clara lakes are so lame about fishing!

Would it be possible to do an afternoon/night tournament? I would be down with that, I don't know about anyone else or what kind of other stuff might be going on, don't even know where it is so that might rule it out too! Just a thought. Otherwise I guess we could do what Rob suggested but it might not be a very good tourney (especially if this heat keeps up!). That is why a nighttime tourney would be so great. Or we could go to the delta or something? I don't know.

Sounds like somebody was countin on a morning bite... I say look around for an alternative location, but if nothing is readily available and easily accessible with little notice, no reservations needed etc. then charge that, but if nothin comes up, just stick with banos.

75, O.K. this aint cool....

Yep you are right, this does suck. I can't really think of any short notice alternative besides the delta, hopefully someone knows something. Hows pinto this time of year? Not an option? Howbout one of the lakes that scbbc fished like spring lake? Del Valle, or is that a Santa Clara one? I am plum outa ideas.

I'll look forward to next year at Spring! In the mean time I'll see you guys at the Delta. I need redemption for bombing the last one there. 3 fish, all 12-1/2 inches. Doh!

I was looking forward to fishing Los Banos but really don't want to fish until 5. Not too interested in Pinto either. And we have fished three at the delta already with a fourth in Nov.

What about Coyote or Anderson? I've never fished either, they any good this time of year? I know that we will be dealing with jet and water skiers but you end up doing the same if you fish Middle River below the rock damn.

Or Lexington? It ought to be big enough (John, did you say you needed a permit last night?).

We do need permits to fish any Santa Clara county lakes, I put the #'s together and our entry fee would double with the same payback they are very strict and I won't even attempt these lakes without a permit.

Looks like the delta then. Are there any other sloughs or portions of the river that are blocked by rock barriers? It would be nice to fish some new water...

I have not been able to find any that would support a large enough area for parking, most area's have no parking sign's everywhere

Well, I’m up for the Delta. Middle River gets minimal boat traffic do to its rock barrier. There is another barrier on Grant Cannel next to Tracy oasis. But parking in minimal. Also there is a barrier on the Old River at the end of Flint road. But again parking and water access sucks. This is my .02

I will put my vote in for Middle River as well. I enjoy fishing there and I think it gives a good level playing field for the tubers (like me) and the kickboaters. Plus the fishing is always purty good. So I say let's get it on!
88, Middle Riv. would be cool, if I could........

Darce fished w/ it for 3+ months one legger, that was the same time I broke my collar bone. We actually have a photo of us holding fish in slings and cast's,I guess some of the best memories are the most painful ones

I think that the middle river would be alot better than los banos this weekend. This way we could get started earlier and get off the water earlier.Plus, there is always nice ones pulled outta there.
91, Damn! Was looking forward to 'Banos (still haven't fished it)
