7638, Who's got the musical talent in the club?
Posted by Chris, Tue Mar-26-02 11:38 AM
Any Celtic guitar, fiddle or anything players in the club?

I go to the Celtic music festival in Sebastopol every year and a few years back started playing the bodran. It's a shallow shelled, Irish hand drum. I was just curious if there were any Celtic music fans hiding in the closet?
Bring yer fiddle to the Open and lets jam a jig or rip a reel! ...Yeah, ya gotta love music that names certain rhythms "jigs" or "reels"!

Oh yeah, if you're a closet bag pipe player, ya better 'fess up! (LOL) 'cuz we gotta play! I dig da pipes!!

Didn't have enough ROOM, though, with all that tackle I brought!!! :-)

(I don't play any Celtic music anyway -- but just get me goin' on some Red Hot Chili Peppers!).

Dave Ryle plays sax, but that instrument doesn't exactly lend itself to Celtic tunes, either, does it?

Well, no, the Sax isn't a traditional Celtic instrument but hey, I can adapt! :D Better bring yer guitar next time. I'll bring my Bodran. God, I hope we have a fiddle player in our ranks!

Watcha think Dave? Do ya know "The Rocky Road to Dublin", "Johnny Jump Up" or "Tamlinn"(my fav)? By the way Dave, what kind of connection do you have to the web? Dial up or DSL/or better?

Clint can't carry a tune in a basket!

No talent here I'm afraid.

Well now,I've been known to play a mean harp(blues)as well.I just have to find them as I haven't played in a couple of years.I also play the tin flute (don't realy know any tunes but can improvise).I'll see if I can find that too.Maybe I can bring a soprano sax.
I'm also starting to get back to giging after a lenghty hiatus.Am talking to Less claypool and a guy who used to play with Jerry cantrel and mirv.I might be at the pheonix theatre in petaluma in june/july with Less.I'll keep ya posted.

I have been playing the guitar since the
70's. Of course I have not picked it up
in the past 6 years. In the early 80's
I was the captin at El Toritos near Great
America in Santa Clara. I went from room to
room and played all types of music. Some
time after a concert at Great America, some
of the bands would come in for some food and
margaritas and I used to play La Bamba for them.
One night after a concert Jefferson Starship
stoped by and I played La Bamba for them and
they used it in a song. At El Toritos I went
by my first name Tony. So when you hear the song
We Build this city by Jefferson Starship and
words come up " an Tony plays La Bamba " thats
ME they are refering to :)

I don't think they wrote that song. They just performed it. Definitely an "A" for a good story though. Har Har
7645, Your *2 seconds* of fame!
Posted by jsmith, Wed Mar-27-02 02:29 PM
I guess if you spread that out over twenty years, that 2-second phrase, repeated every time the song is played, *MIGHT* add up to your 15 minutes! :D

Pretty cool -- I'll have to listen a little closer next time I hear the song!
