Man you're lucky, love that area!!! Go about 20 miles west of Bishop into the big mountains to South Lake. Like all the lakes up there, its large, deep, crystal clear, and often windy, but the fishing is always outstanding for me during summer!! I usually fish the top 15' of the water column and do fine. Compared to the other lakes around there, it has produced the best for me. There is also some awesome fishing in the creeks on the way up there, OFTEN better than the lakes themselves (hint hint). Other than that, the next closest float tube spot would be Crowley Lake up on the way to Mammoth. Crowley is awesome for both large Trout and Sacramento Perch. Try fishing Hilton Bay and McGee Bay for Trout--they are typically the best because a creek flows into each one. The Perch in that lake during summer are a blast. I've caught as many as 85 in a day. They average around a pound, up to about 3 pounds. Lots of fun, just like catching Crappie. Fish the thick weedlines along the shores of the coves/bays and you will find Perch. Yellow is a good color, try it in the form of a small marabou jig or wooly bugger fly.
