10:00-11:00 tonight on The History Channel:

The Tackle Box

From ancient Egyptian fishing parties to today's high-tech bass tournaments, we untangle the fascinating technical history of man's quest to seduce creatures of the deep out of their watery world and into the frying pan. We trace the evolution of the basic rod and reel, from crude hickory poles with braided horsehair to ultra-light graphite wonder-rods with space-age nylon line, and examine the angler's glittering arsenal of spinners, spoons, plugs, and flies.

Yea, I did catch it, and I enjoyed it.

For them's what missed it: It was a pretty decent overview of angling history and I particulary liked the part about the evolution of the levelwind reel. Glad they touched on bass fishing, of course--they even had commentary from Johnny Morris (founder of Bass Pro Shops) and Bill Dance. Other bassin' associated names and stories that came up: James Heddon, Fred Arbogast, Lauri Rapala, Lou Eppinger. The part about tackle box evolution was also interesting. It was pretty neat to note that Ernest Hemingway kept a submachine gun handy to deal with sharks when he went out marlin fishing. The even had commentary from a float tuber.

I could get nitpicky over the little details but it was just a one hour overview rather than an in depth documentary so I won't. Try to catch in when it repeats...

Unfortunately, I missed it. So if anybody finds out when it's coming on again, be sure to post!

Thanks,
