So Paul Elias kicked some butt on Guntersville trowing a small umbrella rig with 5 swimbaits attached known as the "Alabama Rig."

Thoughts?

I'm kind of surprised that it took so long for somebody to develop and market a castable umbrella rig.

I heard about the bait last week before hearing about Paul's use of the rig on Guntersville so my initial thoughts were that it would be great for wipers/hybrids and possibly schooling spots.

Does anyone know if Paul was able to hook up multiple fish using the rig?

I was also a little surprised to find that the "Alabama Rig" turned out to be the castable umbrella rig. Mike Bucca and others were using what he called an Alabama Rig back in the early 2000s which consisted of a Pop-R styple popper and a dropper line from the popper with a flashabou "fly" tied on a treble hook.
