I decided to give wrapping a try. So I brought home a blank from work, some ALWRs, some thread, and a reel seat. Still need a few things to get started, but in the mean time I'd like to know what kind of blank I picked up. It's 9' and the label says R-IGSC 1088. I figured that at least the R-I was not actually part of the blank type. Checked the Calstar and Seeker catalogs and couln't find any thing. Anyone know what it is, and what it's rated? I might chop it down to 8', but it's too early to tell yet. It feels like it would make a sweet rod for slinging rubber.

I've never heard of that model before. As far as I know, none of the major companies (loomis, calstar, seeker, lamiglas, all-star...) have any "GSC" lines. I could be wrong, but I've never seen anything like GSC. The closest I've seen would be Lamiglas, they've got some GLB 1082's (MH, 1MH, 1M). My guess would be it's a discontinued Lamiglas. Then again, it could be some old rod that I'm not familiar with, like an old Sabre or somethin, but I didn't get that impression from your post. So, my guess- Lamiglas.

I'm leaning towards Seeker, because they do have a SC line. It looks and feels like an Inshore, only it's 9' instead of 8'6". Pretty even bend w/ plenty of backbone, Inshore is my guess. Not familar enough w/ the Lamiglass rods to know if it could be one of there's. It'll fish well either way, can't wait to get the rest of the stuff I need and start wrapping.

Ahhh, I forgot about them seeker inshores. I made my reservations, and I'm ready to go. Not too organized down there, though, I must say... (asked me for my name twice, thought I wanted to go whale watching etc...) Oh well, once we get on the boat all will be well I'm sure.

I think you were right about the blank being Lamiglass. I found there website. A lot of their #'s look similar. They haven't replied to my email yet, probably monday.

Did you call the # Danny posted? I didn't have any of your problems. Though she did seem kinda confused about me paying up front. She finally told me they'd send me a letter when it was time to pay. How about you?

First I called H&M Landing, and they were totally confused as to what I was trying to do, and why I called them, and all this stuff, so they gave me the Mustang number, and I called there. The lady I talked to sounded like it was her first day on the job or something. It was some oriental lady, and she first asked me my name, so I gave it to her, and spelled it for her, then she got my phone number, then asked my name again, then asked if I wanted to go on the whale watching trip on the 13th, I said no... I want to go on the allcoast 2 day trip, and then she apparently found the trip on the computer or something, and everything was fine. She said they were going to wait until March 1 to collect the deposit, but she never said she'd send me a letter, and she didn't get my address either.

Got the email tonight. It's not a Lamiglass blank. I've also been told to not use the ALWRs for fishing the plastic. Haven't gotten the whole scoop on that yet. It looks to be because of how the line hits the graphite frame, and probably for casting distance also. So, I think I'll bring back the blank and make a 30# stick w/ ALWRs.

Brian, how's your wrapping going? Do you have a power wrappper? Those Badfish ones look sweet, and they are pretty cheap.

Try asking at http://www.rodguild.com/. Those guys know their stuff. It really looks like Lamiglas numbers on the blank and they make a lot of blanks similar to that. Wonder if the person you contacted checked their discontinued blank numbers.

Consider how you fish a rod when you're throwing plastics. If you point the rod below or to the side of the direction the line is going to the lure, I'd agree about the roller guides. However, if you generally fish with the rod pointing above the line (like you probably would from a float tube) then the roller guides should be fine. You just don't want the line rubbing on the frame all the time instead of rolling along the pulleys.

I actually might bring it back and get a 30# blank and put the rollers on that. I will also wrap a bass rod that I can use in the tube, that one will have rollers. If I keep the 9' Seeker ( They said it's one of their old ones) for plastics, the rollers won't be to big of a problem. I do fish w/ a higher tip than most. Thanks for the input,
