I fished from about 6:30 to 7:30 this evening. I threw 3" sea wolf hammers and had a litle success. About 5 min after i got there i got a short butt about 18". 20 minute or so later i got a short bite that felt like a halibut. Then 10 minutes or so before i left I hooked something large and it spooled me in about 10 seconds. I am 90% sure it was a leapard shark, but it felt much larger than any of the leopards i have caught wich where in the 5ft range. Im sure there are alot of fish there but its a matter of finding out how to catch them. You can bet ill be out there finding out how.

Welcome to the "I GOT SPANKED AT GOLETA BEACH" club. I've lost 2 fish there like that...although I didn't get spooled, I lost the first one when the fish ran all the way to and beyond the outer kelp bed, turned wrapping my line around the kelp, and broke me off.

You could of hooked that leopard in the pec fin. I did that with a 4 footer that kicked my but for 10 minutes. I had spectra on my spinner thank god or I would have never seen him. I chased him down the beach for 200+ yards before tiring him out. It felt like a 40 lb.+ fish, that ended up being 20.
But, you will never know!
