I am no expert here but, the heavier baits could potentially wear down the gears & drag faster, and as mentioned it has less line capacity which could pose a problem with a larger fish making a run. Bigger baits require heavier mono or braid if you choose and a 250 size reel won't hold but a 100 yards or so of 25 pound line. A 400 size reel will also balance a big swimbait rod better which is important and give you the required power and line capacity to fight larger fish. I would use a 250 size reel for smaller baits such as jigs, worms, crankbaits and stuff like that (conventional bass lures) along with a 6'-6" or 7' rod but not on an 8 foot or better swimbait stick.
