#1888, "Swimbait Tackle System and Storage Bag"

I have looked at the way Musky anglers store their baits and wondered when a company would make a bag for our needs. I looked at several different companies and the Lakewood Products bags were the best I found. The main problem was that our West Coast style swimbaits have mostly rubber tails or the whole bait is rubber and we all know how frustrating it is to be on the water and take out your favorite swimbait, only to have the tail or the whole bait, bent and out of tune. The number one thing in swimbait fishing is CONFIDENCE and you don't need a bent bait to start working on your confidence. The problem with the Musky boxes is that they are designed to hang the bait by the rear hook. I contacted Steve, the owner of Lakewood Products and asked him about making a Swimbait box. I told him about my ideas and after a few minutes he said design it and I will take a look and let you know. I sent him some drawings and after a few tweaks we came up with this bag. The bag is 24 1/2" X 14 3/4" and 15" tall. It is made up of a ridged frame with hanging compartments on the ends and a compartment to put 3700 style storage boxes in the middle. It will hold a assorted amount of boxes, 10 - 3701 or 7 - 3700 or 4 - 3730 + 1 - 3701 or 6 - 3700 + 2 - 3701 or 3 - 3730 + 2 - 3700, etc. and 4 - 3620's or Falcon boxes in the side pockets. The hanging part of the bag, I designed a bar system with a snap to hold swimbaits by the line tie, so that the tails would hang straight and come out of the bag, in tune and ready to fish. To give you an idea how many and what size baits it will hold, this is what is in the bag in the pictures. Row 1, 4 Rago Baby Tools and 3 Rago 13" Tools. Row 2, 5 Huddleston 8", 3 Rago Baby Tools, 2 Rago Soft Tools. Row 3, 3 Rago 6" Raptors, 2 Huddleston 8", 1 Rago Soft Tool, 2 Rago 10" Raptors, 1 Rago Baby Tool, 1 - 8" Prototype Hardbait. Row 4, 1 - 10" Matt Lures Trout, 2 - 12" Huddleston's, 1 Rago 13" Tool and 1 Rago 13" Soft Tool. The bag has tool storage pockets in front. I added a strip of velcro to the front of the bag and attach velcro to my Kaenon sunglass cases to keep them available. You could add a number of things to the strip. The bag has double D-rings on the back so you can attach it to the pedestal on the deck. The bag fully loaded will float and with the ridged frame you can stand on it and use it for a casting platform or to sight fish from, it will hold 300 pounds. Lakewood Products is making the bags now and I will have them in the tackle shops soon. Now you can go from the boat to the garage and your baits are ready to go, no more boiling baits to get them straight or taking everything out of your bag and hanging the baits in the garage.
