It’s time to get super excited about bed fishing, rush out, discover that the water is only 58 in the morning, all the bass are suspended and they don’t want to bite anything except 5 inch senkos on 6lb. At least you can console yourself by stocking up on bedfishing equipment.

The secret to bed fishing is the texas rig. That starts with a tungsten bullet sinker, which should always be painted to match the bait and never pegged. No pegging, I told you!!! What a tragedy Tru Tungsten discontinued the chartreuse weight. I would have stockpiled them if I had known. Tear. At least they are on sale today

Sale - $3.99 - $4.99

Next key to bed fishing is the round bend hook. Not the EWG. Resist it for all it’s convenience. The wonderful texposed effect you get on the brush hog is nice, but don’t do it. Grit your teeth, waste a bait a fish and use the round bend. I’m begging TW to get the bronze gammie hook back but in the mean time you’ll want to settle for black nickel

Price - $2.99

Next the lure. How many years have I been preaching the 5 inch Big Hammer. Invader or Rob’s Bluegill. Either way. I’ve made two converts in all these years. Confirmed converts. Nico Raffo and Matt Peters. But those guys suck at fishing :)

Price - $4.69 for 4 lures

You know what else is good. A zipper worm. Especially a greenish colored one that is hard to see on the bed. And who needs to see the lure. Really. You do this long enough and seeing the lure isn’t important any more. I use the Assalt Ringworm but it’s discontinued and the 50 pack bags are in the lower drawer of my tackle bin. Sorry, I got them all. You'll be forced to settle for an 8 pack of greenie weenies.

Price - $3.29 for 8 lures

Grubs are good too, if the fish are nice and dumb. The 6 inch Yamamoto is legit. Not as good as the Big Hammer, but they work. TW doesn’t have the 6in Chart color. It’s ok though. Most people will buy white anyway.

Price - $5.99

White jigs. You’re wondering where the white jigs are. White jig is pretty much the worst possible lure for bed fishing. A lot of people who were good at bed fishing convinced a lot of people who didn’t know better that it was great. Good for the fish, bad for people who didn’t push every possible bait at fish for 10 years and learn it themselves. You’ll only read this on calfishing.com. I tried to help.
