#917, "MWD meeting. Get a beer you need it to cry in."

MWD Round-up.

I went to the MWD meeting on Tuesday. I and everyone else who put in a request was allowed to speak for only 3 minutes. The meeting lasted 2 hours until it was adjourned with no action on boating at Diamond Valley. Al Gourt (Inland Empire), Terry Forman (S.D. Bassmasters), Socal Bass Council, Mike Giusti and myself (representing all the letters I sent out while President and Political Chairman of the S.D. Bass Council) to my knowledge no current representative of the council showed up.

My impression was we received a Dog and Pony show. Yes it was the typical lip service we have all come to expect from our public serpents, I mean servants. And yes, the MWD does work for us. If you look at your property tax bill you will see that you are taxed by the MWD.

The action to the allow boating on the lake was assigned to a special committee for action. It was not know who or what agency will be on the committee.

As far as what we can expect to receive on Diamond Valley and Skinner (Yes these rules apply to Skinner also) this is the likely proposal. These rules only apply to these two lakes. The real scary part is you can expect all the other lakes to fall in line with DV within 2 to 5 years.

NO BODY CONTACT, (NO FLOAT TUBERS)

NO JET SKIS.

NO SKIING.

NO FISHING FROM THE BANK (AS THE BANK IS TOO STEEP TO FISH FROM PER MWD)

25 MPH SPEED LIMIT. 5 MPH WITHIN 200 FEET OF ANY BANK.

NO OUTBOARD MOTORS THAT DO NOT HAVE THE 2001 CARB (CALIFORNIA AIR RESOURCES BOARD) APPROVAL. (THAT MEANS, IF YOU DID NOT PURCHASE YOUR MOTOR AFTER 1 JAN 2001 YOU CAN’T USE IT ON THE LAKE.

IF YOU PURCHASED A MOTOR THAT QUALIFIES FOR THE 2001 STANDARD BEFORE 1 JAN 2001 (PER CARB YOU CAN GET A STAR RATING STICKER FROM THE DEALER THAT SOLD YOU THE MOTOR) (GOOD LUCK GETTING THE STICKER). IF THE STATE FINDS THREE OR MORE STICKERS ATTACHED TO MOTORS THAT DO NOT MEET THE REQUIREMENT CARB CAN BAN THE MANUFACTURE FROM DOING BUSINESS IN CALIFORNIA. YOU READ BETWEEN THE LINES ON THIS ONE.

That is the basic break down of what will happen.

On another note, I had the opportunity to question a local bass boat dealer and ask him about what he is going to do about taking in older boats for trade-ins on newer boats.

The answer was what I have told everyone in the past would happen. HE WILL BE HAPPY TO TAKE YOUR BOAT AND TRAILER BUT WILL NOT TAKE OR GIVE YOU ANY MONEY FOR YOUR OLD MOTOR.

On this issue do not expect any help from the Motor manufactures or boat dealers. Why should they help? You have to buy a new motor to keep fishing. It is a big fat payday for them.

I tried to tell everyone who would listen these two facts. If two strokes are not allowed on DVL no boat dealer would take the older motors on a trade-in (screwing the fishermen) and the lakes can expect a 90 percent decrease in business. If they do not have enough business to keep open they will close them.
