#2149, "November 22, Rancho Goleta Lake"

After the drowsiness from the bird wore off and everybody went home I figured the bass would want a fest tonight too, but there was nobody to give it to them! So, it was my duty to throw trout plugs at the trailer park tonight. It was the least I could do. Having an over abundance of trout tails, I revamped all my older plugs. My AC Minnow looks pretty sweet with the trout tail so I decided to bring it along as a backup. Started out with the 9" slammer as usual and got a 2#er in front of the little fenced off, re-planting area. Crossed the bridge and had a psychotic 2.5#er absolutely light up and savagely attack the plug. I didn't know a fish that size could throw so much water into the air on a blow up. After he hit it, he immediately started to tail walk and be pissed off. Fished the spot where I caught all those fish last night, but nothin goin, so I went back to the other side and threw the slammer on the shoreline by the bridge. About 10ft. from me was another one of those bites that make the loud popping noise and make my heart stop beating. This time I stuck the fish which started shaking it's head and making a little run toward deep water, but I pretty much pinned it and bounced a 5#er. This fish was another one of those kind I'd like to put on a scale (I'm seeing a pattern here, maybe I should bring a scale with me or something...) cause it was probably more like 5.25 or 5.5, but the conservative estimate is 5# class. This fish looked like it could get really big. You know how sometimes you catch a 5#er or a 4#er and it doesn't look like it could get much bigger? It's just a slab of bass. Something about the way this fish's eyes were set in it's head and the size of it's head compared to it's body, and just it's overall build looked like it was just getting started. So that was cool. I threw the slammer around a little bit more and then I tied on the AC Minnow. Same spot where I caught that 2#er earlier a 1# keeper size fish stopped the minnow in its tracks. I worked my way down to the narrows looking for my 5th fish so I could go home and get some sleep for tomorrow morning but couldn't pick one up. On my way back to the truck I decided to throw a couple last casts where I caught that last one and sure enough, first cast I got a 2.5#er. Sweet, I'm done. Tonight's limit was in the 13# class with a 5# kicker. Beautiful night tonight. Really clear and a super bright half moon. I even saw a couple shooting stars while I was walking toward the lake. Cold wind picked up as I was leaving.
