#14756, "The Squid Are Still In Newport"

The Squid Are Still In Newport
Last night, Wednesday 2/17, the Western Pride left the docks at 7PM with 50 anglers in search of the Humboldt Squid. The bite started a little slow, but an hour into the trip Captain Jeff began to meter the squid in deeper water. We caught the first squid in 300 feet of water and continued to catch them there and down as far as 450 feet deep. Yes I said “We”, even I was able to catch one last night, and believe me if I can catch one anybody can. People were having the most success with two to three small jigs connected to each other with 8 ounces of weight or using the Giant Squid Jigs. The Western Pride returned to the docks just after midnight with 170 Squid. Congratulations to Daniel Medina for winning the Jackpot with his 35lb Humboldt Squid and it was great to meet the Medina family last night, we hope to see you back soon.
If you would like to join us in fishing for these Humboldt Squid, www.daveyslocker.com has trips running nightly 7PM to around Midnight for $40 for the boarding pass. If you need rental gear, jigs and weights, or a fishing license they can be purchased in our shop before the trip. Please make a reservation by calling (949)673-1434 and please arrive one hour before departure.
Thanks and Gooood Fishing,
David @ Davey’s Locker
