Ok, let me start by apologizing for not posting in a while. I feel bad - early New Years resolution is to post MORE! Anyways, I don't know if anyone else has used the Platinums yet, but I have an 8 and 10 inch, and have pics of how I put a stinger hook on them. The magnets are such a wonderful idea!!! Ok, so I used 7 strand, and Owner rings and hooks. If anyone else has any better ideas, please let me know. I'm trying to make it so the action isn't hindered at all.

Thanks for the post. What has been your impression of the bait so far. I'm hearing a mixed bag of reports on the lure so far.

I just got a 10 inch rainbow. Love the magnets, what a great idea. Planning to get out for a few hours tomorrow and throw it, have to check out the action. I am in Mass., forecast is saying about 38 degrees, some snow, some freezing rain. If I can catch anything in that weather I'll post a picture.
I rigged a 2/0 owner treble for a trailer on 65 pound braid, looks great.

I received my baits a week ago. On the 8 incer I rigged two size 1, 2x gammies. The 10 incher got two 1/0 2x gammies. My first impression of the bait in the pool was that this bait is definitly something the fish have not seen. That is why I was so eager to fish this bait. Anyways, to make a long story short on the fifth cast the dang lure tore apart and I watched the back half fly into the water just after the head had landed. It had tore at the first joint and all I had left was the head section and my stinger set up. What a dissappointment. These things won't even last five casts let alone a fish. I did like the action though. I still have a 8 inch floater and a 10 incher so we will see what the final verdict is after a couple more weeks of fishing these baits. So far I do not like them but I will still throw them just because it is something the fish have not seen. The one thing I really do like is the 10 incher's size and profile. This thing will definitly get some good stripers. Oh yeah, the 10 does not have as much of an exaggerated action as the 8 but it did not swim at all when I first got it. When I reeled it in it would just come in tilted 90 degrees from what a trout would swim. Well, I weighted it down with some split shot and I am pleased with the action. Anyways, I do like the action to an extent but am very unpleased with the bait so far .

I got mine today from fishin fools, the last 8 inch but they also have the 12 and the smaller one, not sure what size, but mine was 20 bucks. anyway, i hope mine does not rip but the joints do look VERY thin and that they can rip. however, the paint job is no where near as realistic as my hudds. its also really light so maybe thats also a pro when it comes to landing fish.

Was fishing Puddingstone tonight and met up with a guy who was throwing the 8". We were watching the action from the dock and he was experimenting. It had great action worked slow and kind of as a jerk bait. Something the Hud couldn't do. Then one time when he cast it , it also broke at the first joint in mid air and the two pieces went in two different directions. I was very impressed with the action, but at $20 a piece the bait was too short lived.

TM have you actually used them yet? If so, what is your personal impression?
I got a few from Castaic last week and have just started throwing them. I really like the action on the bait and have not had any of the problems addressed by others. The paint job is nice and though the wiggle isn't "trout-like" persay it is very fishy. I've casted mine for several days and done some trolling and they've held up fine. I've not landed a fish yet but did get crushed while trolling it. I've been using all 8 inchers so far. I was concerned when I first got the bait because the joints are pretty thin and other people were talking about having trouble with them but after throwing the bait for a little while I'm pretty confident that it will hold up to some fish.

Matt

I read somewhere saying the baits kind of fold up into the fishes mouth, and don't get too torn up from catching fish on it. Lot of different opinions, curious to see what others think.

Matt you must have got a good one I didnt get one fish on mine I got a 8" fast sinking and after a few times out mine ripped in half on a cast by no means am I hard on baits either I am gonna have to stick w/ my triple trout IMO it does the same thing alot better! Either the one I got was a fluke (probably not since I have herd others w/ the same complaint.) but I think this bait need a bit more time in r&d I liked the concept of a soft triple trout but it didnt work out for me.

I don't know if you got a bad one or what the deal is... I got 4 and none of them have had any problems yet. And TM, I appreciate you explaining why you think they suck, that was a lot more informative and helpful. Good luck with that Triple trout, I've never tried it!

I got an 8 inch for christmas and am having trouble w/ the hook magnets. The hooks seem to move alot if I cast hard or jerk the bait at all while Im fishing it. If the hooks move the bait doesnt run true. Anyone else having this problem?

I find it hard to put a stringer hook on it, and have yet to have any sucess with the 8 or 10 in models. 6" shad i caught a 2lb. Im not 100% dedicated to swimbaits, but i believe the hudds are better (yet to catch a hudd fish). just my thoughts

Has anyone thought of running a wire through the inside of the bait like a coated pice of the thick stainless saltwater leader material? I bet that would work w/ out screwing up the action too? If anyone has one break and they are lucky enough to get back both pices (I was not) I suggest trying something like this mabey 2 pices and re-enforce the joints w/ pro's soft bait glue. Anyhow it's a thought, that may be able to revive a $20 lure my was lost and I keep thinking about different ways to improve the bait this is the best I have coe up w/ so far.

BTW
Matt you should try the triple trout it is alot like the platinum just alot more reliable :+

I got my baits last week, and I haven't fished them extensively but I made around 200 casts with a slow sinking 10" and caught one fish on it without noticing any problems. I thought the action on the bait looked sweet personally, and I like the fact that it's very skinny and has the magentic hook holders. I threw a 10" floating model a little bit also and was less impressed just because you have to fish it so so slow to avoid rolling it. It could be a good deadstick bait or a shore fishing bait but from a moving boat in wind or chop it was kinda worthless.

Anyway, I've heard a bunch of reports now about the baits tearing in half so only time will tell for me, but I am wondering how you guys are casting the baits? I either sidearm or overhand cast my baits and I always lob them out, it's never a jerky motion. The bait shouldn't be spinning in midair either because that is definitely when you get fouled up. I'm not making excuses for the baits breaking, I'm just wondering what exactly is happening to break them?

Rob I am always making a smooth cast usally sidearm the bait was just floating in the air. Mabey it was because it was a fast sinking more weight it will get torn up easier? Anyhow I am not 100% sure.
