Justin: I havn't used that Kistler rod so I can't offer any advice on it. I do love my Heliums for almost every technique but I understand your budget considerations don't allow for one of them.

I don't own that same rod, but have used it and it is a good stick. Kistlers make a very good rod and I highly recommend them unless your loading up with heavy braid the kistlers can handle. Since your looking at a dropshot rod that is something you won't have to worry about. I love kistler rods for most applications and there customer service is better than most, I have broken my share of rods and trey and clifford at Kistler have always taken care of me.

No comment on the rod, but if you are in the $120 range for a reel you cant go wrong with the Quantum Energy PTI. Its solid, has a great drag, and has a magnetic bail spring. Go with the 20 size. Here is a link to TW. They sell it for $10 more than any other place I know, so you can find a better deal (but savings may be offset by TW's free shipping)

Since I couldnt afford that reel, I bought the Shimano Symetre, and I really do like it, size 2500.

I second the Symetre choice. Solid, smooth reel and I like the 2500 size alot. Price is right.

I can't comment on the Kistler's myself having never used one. I bought a Loomis DS rod, it's a bit out of your price range though, but I'm happy very happy with that rod. Maybe look at the Shimano DS rods. TW has them for $140.

Also, I agree, the Symetre is a good reel, you may also want to look at the Shimano Stradic 2500 or the 4000, it's a bit on the high end of your price range but a very nice reel for about $40 more. TW is the place to get it, can't beat the free shipping there.
