#2335, "Curado 100...Tricking It Out"

Hey guys. I got one of these sick little reels for Christmas and was wondering what I can do to trick it out. Any suggestions would be appreciated. This is gonna be my new jerkbait/light T-rig reel if that helps. Thanks and tight lines.

Jake

Here's basic maintenance info: http://www.tacklethief.com/reel_maintenance2.htm

Parts: http://www.harborside.com/~alcgbor/page5

I tried to find a 'trick' site that I read the other day but I can't?

the long & short of it ...

for true performance gains:
1. upgrade the 2 spool bearings - quality ABEC 5 or 7 stainless steel, not ceramics.

2. replace the stock main drag washer w/ dartaniums, extreme smoothies, or HT-100s (the last two may void shimano's warranty).

3. if line cap is not an issue - DIY poor man's wiffle spool
http://pages.infinit.net/fishing/page2.html

4. polish the copper shim under the cast control cap - about the only thing i would do from that supertuning site.

like to spend cash?
5. buy a pair of TG ceramics

6. replace the handle w/ the CTE-50GT or CTE-100GT handle

want bling?
7. replace the handle & drag star w/ those from the calais 100A

while i've tried 1 thru 6, nowadays i just stop at #2 ...

no need for trick drags on a tiny reel, you're not gonna get a sailfish on any Curado- they cast great out of the box, a little Speed X goes a long way, don't ever waste you're hard earned cash on noisy ceramic bearings for light line freahwater applications- ABEC 3 will work fine, if you get 5's, that's icing on the cake but not important- 7's are a nightmare for an everyday reel

Bassnet hit the nail on the head. Abec 5's are a good upgrade but not really needed. I'll check to see if the new Chronarch 50 Mg spool fits but something tells me that it's a little different. It's a small reel that I like to use with 8# test so the stock drag is just fine.If you want to use the Calais handle then you will need to grind the handle shaft down to make it fit (Voids warranty) and then you need some other parts to go with it. If I were you I would degrease the spool shaft and the center of the pinion gear and make sure the spool raceways are clean as well as the out side edges of the spool.
