#3377, "Hardware changing on Plugs"

Hi guys, I recently bought a couple plugs off ebay. I was lured in by the paint jobs and sizes everything said "quality" even the eyes look awesome and huge. And I saw a video of them swimming, so I bought a couple. As you can see the eye screws that hold the 2 hooks and the line tie eye screw are so small. I was just changing out the split rings and noticed how easy it was to remove one of the eye screws, came out way to easy. So I want to know if there will be any problem if I replace them with bigger screw eyes. And what type of screw eyes should I look for? If I change them myself should I add any type of adhesive to the screw?
Or should I just contact the makers?
In the pic with the 2 plugs the one with the big screw eye is from a different maker, its just there as an example.
Thanks Guys!!

I can just recommend that you use Stainless hardware. You can find them on sites like this one: www.barlowstackle.com

Use Owner Hyperwire split rings too. They are the best out there.

Nicco,
One of the lure in the first picture is called KPN lure correct? I'm the maker of that lure. I bought the ss hardware from the site mention above and from Staminainc.com. I have some of them, if you want, let me know I will let you have them the same $ as I got from them.
No! You can not find screw eyes at Home Depot, they carried ss hardware, but NOT what you need (believe me, I went through that already).
To me, the size of the screw is not inportant, as long as your screw is long enough.

KPN.

thats your plug alright, Kahn.
On a side note I think you should get your plugs up in the review section here. They are really nice plugs with internal rattles. And I know there have been some good catches on Stripers.
Kahn the plug is a 6" and the screw eyes are a total length of 5/8 with 1/4 of thread, sounds to short, you think?

I have another plug from the same maker it is 71/2 and the screw eye are a total length of 3/4 with 3/8 of thread, how does that sound?

If you have something that will be better let me know, okay?
thanks

Nicco,
I think 5/8" screw for the 6" plug and 3/4" for 7 1/2" is too short. I used 1 1/8" to 1 1/2" for my plugs and I also used liquid nail when I applying the screws.
I have 1 1/8" & 1 1/2" SS screw and I can help you to fix the plugs you have.
I don't know how to get the plugs to the review section....(to whom & where). I would appriciated your input.

Check your PM.

Khanh aka KPN.
