2-yrs now and still having problems with fluro line.
backlashes. overruns. all top notch reels and expensive line.
biggest problem is into the wind!!!! I'm matching heavier line
with heavier baits (15 lb. with 1 oz. bait) but still have
problem!!! If I go down to a 5/8 oz. bait the problems
multiply! Also, every once in a while the line will just break
off in the middle of a cast and the bait is gone,gone, gone!
I'm using KVD line spray almost every time I go out.   Anyone
got a short answer to a long question? And please don"t
say don't use it anymore like all my so called fishing
buddies. I've got too much money tied up in line and lost
baits to give up now.

What brands are you using? I fish almost all FC line now and I
do not have the problems you speak of. I use Sunline and
Seaguar exclusively. I have used Sugoi also with no issues
like this along with many of my friends that fish
professionally. 

Hey Woo,

I'm not sure which solutions you have already attempted, but
one thing I have found very helpful for preventing overruns
with fluorocarbon is to not spool your reel too full.  Coupled
with properly set magnetics and/or spool tension, this should
all but eliminate backlashes and overruns.  

The KVD line conditioner is a good product. I would continue
to use it as needed.  I really like it for cold weather since
the line tends to have more memory.      

Just out of curiosity, which brand(s) of fluorocarbon are you
using?  I'm confident you will be able find a brand of
fluorocarbon and a system that will make you become very fond
of this line.  

Fluoro definitely handles differently than copolymer and
monofilament lines but in my opinion, the benefits of
fluorocarbon far outweigh any of its quirks.  I know it has
improved my fishing tremendously.

come to think of it most problems come with a new, full spool.
I'll try about 5/8 of a spool next time. thanks much for the
replies. I am us Vicious 15, 12,and 10. On occasion I still
get breakoffs so I don't know if I'll throw a $40 bait but my
fishing spots don't have real clear water and I can get away
with braid. Any more help, esrecially fishing lighter baits
(less than 3/4 oz.) into a very stiff breeze can only help and
will be greatly appreciated.

Hey Woo,

I have not tried the Vicious fluorocarbon but I have read
mixed reviews.  It is the most inexpensive fluoro I have seen
and this may be a case where you get what you pay for.  

I have tried several different brands of fluorocarbon and the
one I keep coming back to is the P-Line 100% Soft
Fluorocarbon.  For me, it performs as well as the high-end
premium fluorocarbon lines I have used, but is significantly
less expensive.  I highly recommend giving it a try.  For
fluorocarbon, it casts beautifully.  

When you spool up your bait caster with fluorocarbon, don't
leave too much of the spool empty either.  This can
drastically reduce your casting distance and line recovery. 
For starters, I would recommend leaving about an 1/8 of an
inch of space between your line and the edge of the spool.

How old is the Viscous line that you have and did you buy bulk
spools?  I love the Viscous fluorocarbon, but they did have
some bad line out there when they first started manufacturing
the fluoro in house.  I have never had problems with
backlashes, but the one spool of bad line I got was very bad,
and would break easily.  

What brand reels are you using?

I'm using all Shimano Calias and Curado. I adjusted the ABS on
a couple and it really helped on a "test drive". How
much distance I lose may be another matter but all looks
"ok" for now. Thanks much for the help!!!!! What do
you all think of this co-polymer line? Is it easier to manage?
Something tells me it's lacking something because no one EVER
