#738, "Biosonix Brain Fart"

Been thinking about the Biosonix unit lately, and feeling a bit irritated by the fact that I want one but it costs $700. The more I thought about it, the more I couldn't figure out why on earth the unit is the size of a lunch box and why it would cost $700.

So here's my Biosonix brain fart if you will.

The typical high end Lowrance fish finder these days comes with two MMC card reader trays. The cards are standard format cards, and you can put any sort of data you want on them.

What if... Lowrance (or whatever fish finder company) teamed up with Biosonix and integrated a very small mp3 player into the graph. Your typical 512mb or 1gb mp3 player these days is the size of your finger so it wouldn't take up much space.

Then you wire it so that the MMC reader in the graph reads files for the mp3 player. So you get your Biosonix chip with all you sounds, pop it in the reader, run a wire out the back of the graph for the underwater microphone (or integrate it along with the transducer cable) and viola, no more lunch box sized device, and probably no more $700.

And then I'm thinking, why not buy the underwater microphone from Biosonix for $40, get your own mp3 player and hook it up to the mic, record your own sounds and have your own ghetto biosonix? If you had access to a bass bin at an outdoors show, it might not be too hard to record a few sounds ;)

I give a lot of props to the guys who invented Biosonix but I'm just saying...

I don't care, that's why I posted it. Maybe Biosonix will realize it's a good idea and then I'll be able to get a unit for a reasonable price.

Rob, why don't you pitch it to Biosonix? They may even give you one for free. It's a great idea. Be the one that makes it happen. The worst they can say is "no".
