#867, "JET OUTBOARDS??-have a few ?'s"

Well i'm in search of a boat, and me n dad recently checked out a nice 16 foot tracker jon boat. It had a 20hp jet outboard motor.

I will be going to places that have lots of vegetation, like the Potomac river.

Heres the question: ARE Jet outboards able to handle vegetation, or will it get clogged with the grass/ lilly pads???

THANKS

BEN

PS: the boat is riveted, about 4 years old. I was wondering if rivets are really bad for the boat. The hull is welded, but the seats are riveted to the hull

god bless

I think the purpose behind jet outdrives is to run in skinny water. I have never been in a boat that has had one but I know they're popular at Lake Havasu in AZ to run way back in super shallow water on the river.

You will be fine in deeper water, not sure about the weeds. I do know that they rob horsepower, something like 20-30%.

Lotta ins, lotta outs, lotta what have-yous

yeah, A 20hp jet is really a 25HP motor, but with jet propulsion instead of prop.
