#1443, "Rago 8" Tool"

Here is some picks of the 8" Tool. They should be at T/W in a about a week im told, and they will cost the same as the 8" Raptor. The first pic shows it next to a 8" Raptor.
Lets play nice kids!}(

The same price as the raptor?!? Nice. It seems like a lot beter improvement from the 10 inch 300 dollar tool. Now i just hope it works as good as it looks.

Now that the cat is out of the bag or should I say the trout is out of the creel, I can show you some of the different tails that we have been playing with. Raptor style, new improved Raptor style, all hard and my favorite is the rubber just like the big Tool. Like Pete said they will be at TW real soon and to answer the question if they will work, I caught this 13.4 on Friday at Jennings. More to come.

It is a floater, lipped floater/diver, slow sink like the Raptor, fast sink and a secret model to be introduced later that will blow your mind. It will be available in at least all the Raptor colors and then some, at least 10 colors.

Man these baits are awesome! I was able to get my hands on one when Eric got the first 20 made in. Guy were buying 3 and 4 at a time! They are a little more than the Raptor at $100 each. But the when you see what this bait can do, WOW! I can see really good things with this bait! I just threw it the ohter day at a lake not known for swimbaits. But I got to play around with it to see what Jerry had told me about it. :)

Oh yea got to Thank Jerry for the helpful tips he gave me when I met him that day. Nice down to earth guy! THANKS JERRY!!!

Ok here's the new 8" soft Tool. The soft Tools will be painted just like the one in the pic. There is also a belly hook you can just barely see. Also here's a pic of Rago with two of a four fish 41LB stringer on the main lake of Casitas while the ESPN crew were filming in the restricted area. Oh ya he was casting the 8" Tool not trolling. Nico, your right about the weird dots. This is something i forgot to mention, Jerry said that the dots will be round (normal)not lines.
Not sure if your right about the color though, every lake is different. But than again im not big on detailed paint jobs. Thanks for your feedback, this is important especially from someone like yourself who has a long track record of catching big bass. Pete A A}(

To elaborate more on the color... Rago's paintjobs always are very high contrast with large, widely spaced black dots. Irregardless of what color tone the fish is (green/blue/silver...) every real trout I see in the water has a very subdued color pattern, with small, tightly spaced dots that are often blurry or fade into the background color of the trout. These are all typical colors I see on the water...

http://www.calfishing.com/dc/user_files/5053-trout1.jpg

http://www.calfishing.com/dc/user_files/5054-trout2.jpg

http://www.calfishing.com/dc/user_files/5055-trout12.jpg

It makes sense that a trout would have a blurry, disorganized, low-contrast coloration, since it helps the fish blend into the surroundings. The white and black paint jobs Rago uses would make the fish stand out too much. I think that the bass are also much more likely to bite a lure that has a low-contrast color pattern, something that doesn't burn into it's brain, something it can't recognize quickly as being fake. I think the Triple Trout has done a great job in making a lure with a low-contrast coloration that makes it look more natural, even if it lacks detail.

One can argue about if a paint job is really important, or if it's mostly the action that matters. But if you're going to go through the trouble of painting a lure, why not paint it like the real thing. I understand it's probably a lot more difficult to paint all the tiny dots in all the weird faded colors, too. But in that case it'd be better to just leave the details out like a Triple Trout or Stocker Trout instead of using unnatural caricatures.

Anyway, I still want that lure :)

ON TW they have diving, sinking and floater. What's the fall rate on the diving and sinking, and is the floater lipped...... does it strictly float or does it come down a bit on the retieve? It seems that certain colors have certain sink rates avalible

At TW they said the "diving" is just the floater with a lip on it. They didn't have any info on the ROF of the "sinking" though.

So if it's a lipped floater what's the difference between that and the non lipped floater? BTW which one did you get

I got sinking. The "floater" is just a lipless surface bait. The "diving" is just a lipped floater that gets however many feet below the surface, I would imagine no more than 3' or 4'.

Just got myn in today, posting video of the action in a new thread.
