Funny story...we go to DVL last week to promote our new softbait...the AC Casitas. We saw some chasers and Eric (Allan's son) winks at me and pulls out a beat up 9" original and says "watch this". He throws it out there and I swear he hooked up on his 3rd cast with that thing.

A lot of this game boils down to confidence lures in certain situations. Even though the original has been around for a looooong time...it can still catch em =) Seems like a pretty good deal to me...but there are lots of baits these days to choose from =)

I have some originals as well as a prototype that Alan gave me back in the mid-90's... I caught some fish on them but as wood baits evolved I felt I was getting bit better on other baits so they have been retired to the grave yard. I can't speak for the other baits on there but there are only a handful of guys throwing them still in California... that may be a good thing though.

One thing with Alan's handmade baits that always made me think twice about buying some is the inconsistancies of the baits. Once again... I'm speaking of baits made in the 90's but I had some friends that received multiple baits on the same shipment that would never run the same. One guy bought 5 and could only get 2 to track straight.

If I was thinking about buying a similar style bait... I would get a Slammer... once again, just my opinion.

That was a nice fish in that picture... Why was it photoshoped? Just wondering.

Yes, Allan's handmade baits are inconsistant. Allan is more of a workhorse than a detailed crafstman. Sometimes I think he fishes way too much =) That being said...his handmade are better than they used to be.

As far as the pic goes...why does anyone photoshop their pics these days?
