#5151, "Fishing Cosumnes & Mokelumne Rivers- Cosumnes Preserve"

I’m looking for information on fishing the Cosumnes & Mokelumne Rivers around the Cosumnes Preserve-(off Franklin Blvd, S. of Sacramento/ Elk Grove and N. of Thornton)
I have a small 8’ boat that I can put in almost anywhere. Any information on river access points, and fishing (preferably Smallmouth/Largemouth but, info on other species is also welcome)would be greatly appreciated.

Most of what you catch in either of those rivers will be small, the consumnes seems to be overun with squawfish. If you fish the mokelumne hit the rocky areas with cranks and football jigs most of the fish will be 10" or less smallies. Id suggest launching you boat in walnut grove and fishing the meadows with frogs and senkos for bigger lmb.

Hey let that Bass go I wanna catch her some day

I have fished the Mokelumne River a lot from Lodi Lake to Wimpys and have caught many lmb in there. Between Peltier Rd and I5 the water can be quite swift at times, but I have caught up to 5 lbrs in that area. I5 down to Wimpys has a lot of smaller bass, but I have got a couple up to 4 lbs mostly 1-2 lbrs. The Consumnes dries up this time of year so you have very limited fishing areas. Franklin Rd south to Mokelumne has small bass. The only other place I know to catch bass on the Consumnes is around Dillard Rd up to Bridgehouse. Alot of small bass and some smallmouth. Find deep holes off of waterfalls and rapids. Both Mokelumne and Consumnes 4 inch finesse worms with the lightest weight you can get away with, 6 lb line and a spinning rod. Just my 2 cents.

Mike
