#18492, "December 5, 2013 - Disney World - Bay Lake fishing repo..."

Took the family to Disney World in Orlando last week and decided at the last minute to book a bass fishing trip at the Magic Kingdom.

Derek and I went for an afternoon trip, starting at 1:30 and fishing until 3:30 or so. I had no idea what to expect but was surprised to find that our guide was a great fisherman, with quality gear, who knew right how to catch you some bass in short order.

We fished on Bay Lake which is a decent sized lake right there on the edge of the Magic Kingdom resort. There was a lot of boat traffic on the lake but the fish didn't seem to care. Probably used to it.

Water clarity was 2 or 3 feet, black. Didn't get a temp. Our guide Kevin said there had been a cold front a week and a half ago and the fish had shut down after that. By shut down he seemed to mean that you couldn't catch 30 in two hours on shiner minnows.

He had minnows but suggested we troll. That kinda threw me but the goal was to catch Mr. Derek some bass so we went with it. We trolled in Aurora Black. The program was to cast behind the pontoon boat, put it in gear and wait for the hit. We landed 21 bass. I was impressed and Derek had a great time.

Kevin said he's been guiding on that lake 4 days a week for 13 years. He'd guided many of the Elite guys like Skeet, Ish, Byron, etc. Crazy deal to have to guide people to fish in such a short amount of time, but he had it figured out.

It sounds like catching numbers is seldom a problem. The biggest fish he's verifiably heard of out of the lake was a bit over 10lbs. It sounded like 3 or 4lbs was a decent fish for right now. 5's and 6's are more common in the spring. Most of our fish were pound and a half.

At the end of the day we called mom and Derek said, "Mommy - I caught 21 and daddy caught zero." Kevin and I just laughed :)
