Here's a lure I've been dreaming about.

14 to 16 inches long

Soft plastic, at least on the surface

Awesome like a huddleston in terms of action and sinking action.

But built from something lightweight so it casts easily. I'm thinking the lure would weigh no more than 6oz.

Maybe an internal skeleton or hollow area. Then use tungsten to compensate for the buoyant/lightweight innards.

The bait shouldn't be too thick so fish are hard to hook on it. Like no more than 1.5 inches from side to side. It also shouldn't be too tall from back to belly. No more than 2.5 inches.

Just picture a long skinny trout.

Color would be pale green with gray/silver sides fading to white pearl. Tons of small black spots.

Thin red gills. Trap hook wire positioned right in front of anal fin. Front hook placement where the gills meet under the chin, very close to the nose of the bait.

The paradigm shift is the weighting aspect.

I've bought most of the "huge" lures made over the years and there's really not many that get bit. I think weight is a big problem because if affects action, castability, and realism.

The 12" hudd looked cool but didn't get bit well. It's a bastard to cast it and the tail action was funky. The 16" Rago generic trout looks cool and I think it could catch, but I've fished and trolled the hell out of it for no bites. Same story for me with the 13" Tool. It looks super cool but doesn't seem to get bit. It's a chore to cast.

The 12" Castaic Trout has caught fish for some but I don't consider it one of the great baits. You can fire that thing for hours and not produce anything. Been there.

The 12" Slammer is a fish catcher for sure. One of the few good 12" baits. But I want something to cover the subsurface. And there's just not much in this department.

I like to dream about great lures :)
