#5516, "Well it's that time of year"

Time for the traditional 'goals of the new year' and the slightly bragging year in review type post :)

My goal last year was to get a lake record bass somehwere and frankly I didn't even come close. So I gotta go with that same goal again for this year.

The year in review is that I caught more 10lb fish than I've ever caught before. There was a long period where I didn't have any actual 10lbers and this year they just appeared out of nowhere for me. The final tally was 12 fish over 10 for 2004 with my best fish at 13.8lbs. It was a lot of fun, but the motivation is just even stronger now to try to get some really big ones.

Whatever your goals are for 2005, I hope y'all get them and I hope you have a great time out on the water. Never give up on the dream!

Rob,
I am happy you posted somthing on this subject! Last year I did not set any goals. This year now that I have a boat I am going for 10 fish over 10lbs! Last year I lost the only 2 big fish I hooked :( Both which were well over 12lbs. This year I am going to try more swimbaits bigger tackle.

Happy New Years!

I have one goal and thats to stick at least one fish over 10. Im not on the same level as many of you, but Im learning. Goal two is that the fish I get over 10 is a teener. Goal three is to win a CA Fed tournament as a backseater, Ive come close. I have two tournys at Clear Lake, one in Mar and one in Apr. If conditions are right for swimbaits, I know I can win it. Goal four is to help my buddy stick his first fish over 10, I think that would be totally cool to be with my pal when he got his first double digit. Actually, I would rather see him get a double d than myself. And goal 5, learn more about how to stick more double d's. :P

Goals: Considering I will get on the water only 2-3 times a month all spring, and same with fall. I have to be realistic in my goal setting. But still, I believe in setting high goals. First and foremost, I'd like to catch another bass over 14 lbs, which got away this summer. twice. Two different fish. Secondly, I want to catch as many as possible over 7 lbs. I want a 4+ lb Redeye bass, a 6+ lb spotted bass, a 6+ smallmouth bass.

Overall, I just want to keep spending as much time on the water as possible, and increasing the productivity and the frequency of landing big bass. My 30th fish over 7 lbs was just as exciting as my first. It stays consistent my excitement for bigger fish. And thats awesome.

Can't wait for a great 2005.

Yes, there is a redeye bass. One of seven speecies of black bass that includes the largemouth, smallmouth, spotted, guadalupe, suwannee and shoal bass. The redeye is a small bass indigenous to the south-eastern U.S. The world record is less than 8 lbs. The redeye like all black bass are not true bass, but menbers of the sunfish family.

Tm, The redeye was introduced in northern california in the 1960's. They can still be found in a few rivers and lakes in n. california. Lake Oroville has them.

A red-eye bass is different than a smallmouth or a spotted bass. They dont get as big, they have a little bit of a different stripe pattern. They are rare too. Their range is scattered throughout the united states. My PB redeye is 2 1/2, which is pretty good for a red-eye. The world record I think is 5 lbs, 10 ounces or something. I don't have a pic, Do a google on them, you should find some info.

I think there are still some redeye lurking in the SD county river system from plants in the 70's- I'd love to get one of them!

I've noticed in years past the guys who have goals for their year tend to really do well. If you set your sights on something no matter how high the sights are, it helps keep you motivated to go the extra mile. You three guys who just posted I think are all going to get some really nice fish this year.

I only want one fish this year and I know were she lives! That is my goal. I would also like to catch 20 bass over 7 lbs. It will be tough but I think it is very posible. Out of the 20 I want 8 over ten and I want one over 13. But most of all I want my one fish!
As far as bragging goes I did pretty good this year. I caught about 20-25 over 5 with 8 over 7 and 4 over 10 with my bigest going 12lbs 9oz.
the best thing was getting most of them on my own baits. BUT MY BIGGEST GOAL OF ALL IS FOR ROB TO GET ONE OVER TEN ON MY NEW BLUEGILL!!! :-)

"the best thing was getting most of them on my own baits."

Matt,
Catching fish of any size on your own baits is toomuch fun! I pour all mine too! I used to have a site and was mostly doing senkos I have to close that down because I was getting a average of 10,000 senkos per week and could not do it :( Now I am pretty much just selling to a few torney guys around the country who are looking for custom colors! I cought my biggest on one of my hand poures 14.2 in the delta on a 3" fry.

I never seem to reach my goals. Maybe they're too general. This year I'm going to keep it very specific. I want three bed fish over 10 lbs, that's it :)

It was a pretty good year for me. I caught my new personal best at 11lbs 4oz. If I could just beat that again, it will be a good year for me. If it happens to be the Lopez lake record, that would definitely be a plus :)

I'd also like to get a fish over ten on something other than a swimbait. Preferably on a jig.

And lastly, at the end of this year, I hope to be able to say that i'm better than I am right now. I know that I can say that about this past year. I added several techniques to my arsenal and caught quality fish on them. Now it's just perfecting what i've learned and becoming more confident.

safe waters this year for all,

Well, I'm new to swimbaits so my 2005 goal is to catch my first 'swimbait-Bass' but firstly, to catch my first double-digit Bass using any kind of bait/technique. It's been along time since I caught my PB, 8 lbs even.

Oh well, I guess I should say I have the same goal as last year although it has been made tougher by the demise of San Pablo, but its still to catch the World Record Bass. Call me stupid or one track minded, but that's still my goal. Being in No. Ca. makes it harder, but still do-able. Don't be too surprised if I do.

Haven't posted here in a while but...

At least one fish over 10 lbs. Preferably a teener as I've had at least one on but just missed lipping it by about three inches...
I'm too much of a tournament guy so it makes it hard to just persue big girls. Gotta keep the goals reasonable! :+

10 fish over 7 lbs. Got three over 7 lbs (they were all just 7lb 1oz or 7lbs 2oz :-( ) in 2004. First year in 4 years I didn't get one over 8lbs. ;(

Last but certainly not least - keep learning!

Happy 2005 to all and hope to see plenty of BF pics on the boards!

Todd

Most of my goals will be the same since i didnt make then last year. Last years goals posted on the float tube form were

goal #1 win half the BNT traveler region events.
been a tough year for me, this didnt happen

#2 place in the top 5 in every BNT T.R event.
did this

#3 Take the BNT T.R AOY
Finished 2nd...damn Mitch :)

#4 Qualify for the BASS Fed. TOC.
couldnt afford to fish the whole season, I have no doubt if I would have been able to, i would have reached this goal

#5 Make the Open's the biggest and best kickboat event's ever!
I believe this goal has been met

So next year I am going to change things a bit

#1 This will now be #1 and I will reach this goal
Qualify for the BASS Fed. TOC.

#2 go up to the BNT Shasta Region and take there AOY title :P

Only 2 goals for 2005.

All I want is one largemouth over 15lbs. or a striper over 40lbs.
Taking first place in one of the everstart tournaments this year
would also be nice.

Goals for "05"? I'll go with...
1. BnT Delta Region AOY
2. 20lb limit in a tourney
3. The "Double Double", Two 10+ fish in 1 day
4. New PB

Even though I didn't really set any goals in "04" it was a good year. I managed a new PB and won the BnT travelers region AOY. These are always pretty much un-written goals of mine anyway.

I tried to find the goals that I set at the beginning of last year but couldn't. I know I hit one of the goals which was to catch a Jig fish over, I think it was, 7#. I did that in February with a 9.8. Other than that I don't think I made any of my goals.

As for this year, I think I'll rehash some of my goals from last year and ad a few things.
1) A Green Teener (Largemouth Bass over 13#)
2) A legal Dino (Sturgeon, I've caught 1 over and 2 under)
3) A 25+# 'But (Halibut that is, get your mind out of the gutter! I had 1 on last year but she destroyed my net and f###ed up my arm for almost a week.)
4) Any kind of a WHOLE Tuna actually brought to the boat. (been Sharked or broke off every time.)

Goals... let's see.
This year I'd like to get a 13+. I'd also like to get at least one 10+ on a swimbait. I still haven't taken a decent sized fish on a swimbait. Its about the only way I haven't been able to get one. Finally, I'd like to get a 10 during a tournament.

Last year: half dozen 7's, 2 8's, and a 10. Had a really big girl pop off after a short fight in crystal clear water.

To finally get a double digit out of LMV! I'm stuck at 9.9 and to fish new water this year.

mine is the same as Magmaster, a 10 out of LMV- I got three from 9.6 to 9.9- I gotta put more time on the water for sure this year, and another goal of mine is to try and figure out patterns better and do well in small tournies- a local billfish, 35 lb. butt, and a calico over 8.5 are on the list-

Ya know, my goals this year are relatively simple.
For the last 5 years, I've had almost as hard a time getting out on the water than during the late 80's when I was in the military and obsessed with skydiving. I really just want to go fishing and compete.

I'm starting my own business this year because I'm sick of leaving my destiny to others.

Goal #1 Not to get evicted from my apartment and end up homeless.
Goal #2 Hire 1 or 2 airbrush artists by 2006 to do the work for me while I promote the biz.
Goal #3 To be fishing 4 to 5 times a week by 2007.
Goal #4 I would love to catch a teener this year. My goal last year was to catch a 10+ and I got it.

So much for bragging.

Tight lines to you all. I hope you reach your goals.

Chris
