Hey

Has anybody fished the Basstrix Paddle Tail Tube Swimbait? What is the best way to rig it up and how do you fish it?

Thanks

There's a couple hooks that are good for the Basstrix. One is the Mustad Power Lock EWG. Here's a pic of that hook from TW

You have to bend those hooks out a little to get the hook angle right. They curve in too far toward the hook shank out of the package. Not surprisingly these hooks have been chronically sold out on TW for months, but if you order you will get them, I got mine after about 2 weeks.

The other hook people like is the Falcon weighted EWG hook. It's called the Bait-Jerk hook I believe. This is a Gamakatsu Superline hook with some weight on the shank.

Here's a pic showing the 5/0 falcon hook (top) and the 5/0 Mustad hook (bottom). Both are rigged in 6" baits. I added a little more weight to the falcon hook which you can see in the pic. That hook can use some bending out also. It's not bent out in that pic.

There are some other options from Owner that have a pigtail attached to the eye of the hook but from what small experience I have with these lures, those hooks don't seem to keep the fish on very well.

As far as how to fish the baits, I hate to be smart, but just cast them out and reel them in. They fish like a spinnerbait to me.

Yes, they are ABSOLUTE killers! Get like a flipping jighead with the sinker fixed on to a Wide Gap worm hook and just rig them like you would a plastic worm.

You can also toss them onto just an open ball jighead and hop them on the bottom. I like your Rob, an I'm going to give it a try.

I'm all out right now, but man I can't think of a better time to throw them!

There neat little baits. I found a teardrop jig head at wallmart. The fat end was at the front and I was able to push the tapered end into the bait. I putr the whole jighead inside and then pushed the hook eye out of the top. It looked just like it was made that way with the internal jig head.

I also rig it with the lead head inside the bait as well. I set it up the same way the LA sliders are rigged.
