Ive been looking around for awhile for a new reel but there are so many out there im having a hard time.
I have 2 curados and i love them, but i dont know if i want to get a new one, or stick with the reels i already know i like.

My question is, wat would u recommend for a reel under $130?

I have 4 Curados and thought about buying a different reel but in the end I stuck with the Curado. I have'nt tried any of the Quantoms. I've tried some of the mid range Daiwas ($50-120) but liked my Curado more.

I don't have any experience with the Pflunger President but haven't heard any bad things about them. Scott Green likes them a lot and thinks they're a better deal than the curados. Right at that price point too.

I would probably try one myself but darn Mr. Pham is making me think about those more high priced reels :9

Anyway, try something different and let us know! Shimano are hard to get away from but experimenting might lead to something great!

Don't know if you have seen them yet but Shimano makes "Low end" baitcasters. Bass Pro Shops do not carry them,but Cabela's do. Sure they are cheap in price, but not in qaulity. I have been using the Coriolis. Perfect for the guy that doesn't want/have a wad of cash to spend. Shimano is a great manufacturer, can't go wrong there...

If it were me, I would spend just a couple more bucks and get the curado superfree. I have been using shimano baitcasters for a few years now and swear by them.. marc x

I`ve got a used chronarch 100 I`m selling.They only reason I`m getting rid of it is because its righthanded(I`m going all lefthanded).Its one of the best reels out there,on a scale of 1-10 mechanically its a 9.5+ and an 8+ cosmeticly.I`ll let it go to one you guys for $120.00 or possibly trade it for a cbr 847.It also comes with the cloth shimano reel bag,wrench,extra weights and the paperwork.Bill

I do not want to sound like a Shimano whore but I will not buy anything else.

I have had Abus, Diawas, Quantums, Mitchels, Bass Pro, and Cabela reels and while they are all very fishable they do not seem to have the duribility of the Shimanos. I know that I have posted this before but I still use my very first Shimano baitcaster that I got in 1988, it still works like a champ and I have never had it serviced or cleaned. Last year I bought one each of the low end Shimano baitcasters (Castillo, Crestfire) and have been impressed with them. Now they are not Curados but they are very useful reels. The other thing I like about Shimano is their coustomer service. I recently sent my older spinning real to them and they fixed it no charge and it was back in my hands in just over a week. If you like the shimanos I would stick with them. I am thrilled that Santa brought me my first Curado this year, I am sure I will have it for a very long time.

I might get that reel from you Bill (if Jared doesn't want it). I think you're smart to go left-handed. I have one that I have experimented with but may go with more come the future.

that there is a big market for the people who fish left handed reels.

If you’re comfortable in casting with your right hand then switching hands to wined with your right hand then be it. sorry ;(

For me I have lost too many fish on the moment the bait enters the water.

Use to fish right hand reels till I tried a left handed and will never go back.

Each year these companies produce new reels, right handed. The demand for those reels in a left hand model is high. Later in the year they produce left hand models, but very few. They sale out faster then they can make them!

It's the same thing every year, no lefties!!! By the time they have them in stock, there is a new model on the market, but again only in right hand x(

But I'm gonna hold tight for the Okuma's. I was told by a little bird that the lefties would be available later this year. They will be replacing all my curado's!

Shimano and Daiwa are 2 of the best that makes lefthanded reels in almost all of their line.You definately cant go wrong with shimano, high quality and a great selection a little pricey but you get what you pay for especially when it comes to reels.Jake why would you want to get rid of your curados?There good quality reels,reaonably priced,left handed models available what else could you ask for?just curious.I`ve fished with alot of different reels and shimano diffenately is #1.Daiwa is hit and miss.abu garcias are o.k they`ll lat a long time but a little slow in technology in my opinion.And okuma,well.....the induron is pretty smooth 10 bearings I believe,but doesnt feel as smooth as my shimanos with half the amount of bearings.They are well made but one of the heaviest reels I`ve used.The new ones look much cooler and look alot lighter than the induron,I also like the fact they kick down a wiffle spool and a regular spool.I`d like to try one when there available,maybe I`ll get one at the raffle again.

Only problem I have with the leftys is when I'm flippin, sometimes the line gets caught on the drag ajustment(star). That never happens with the right hand models. I have both left and right side retrieve models, if one wrist starts to fatigue I'll use the opposite retrieve reel. It works for me! Left retrieve for casting frogs, blades, cranks, and Right retrieve for flippin and pitchin! }(

Jared, if you want a great reel for a good price, I really like my scorpion 1000/1001. They'll run you around $150, but I've seen them go for less on ebay brand new. You could probably get it for around $135. They cast and pitch 1/8 to 1/4 ounce weights well, but can still handle the heavier stuff. I'll show you one this weekend if I do the tourny. Its the 100a,its also 3 seasons old and was $200.00 new.And yes you can think it over,you can even try it before you buy it.One other good thing about shimanos is they hold there value well,so if you ever decide to sell it you`ll at least get your money back.And now that they discontinued the bantam chronarch this year the value I suspect will even get higher because of its popularity amoungst fisherman.Shoot me an e-mail when you decide.Bill

Shimano has been the best reels for me. You can buy there cheapest reels and you will still have some thing of quality in your hands. I have triied a few of the other brands entry level reels and they performed ok, but the Shimano's quality is hard to beat. If you do try some other brand please let us know what you think.
