#39061, "Modification of kickboats"

Good afternoon. I am new to this forum and was wondering if I could get your help.

I have had a kickboat for a few years and have been wanting to do some modifications to it. I currently have to carry it up and down the stairs to my condo and want to lightenthis load. I was wondering if anyone had advice or experience with building the entire frame with PVC tubing? Also if anyone has used a front trolling motor? I have looked through your picture gallery and seen some great boats but none quite like I was thinking of doing...There might be a reason...

I am on the East Coast and there is not much here for kickboats. Any help or suggestions would be great!

Welcome!!! PVC? I have experimented with Industrial grade schedule 80 on changing the positioning of my seat on my Water Skeeter Kickboat. It only lasted a summer before breaking. (No fat jokes guys :) ) I wiegh about 200lbs. I could not see an entire frame made from schedule 80 and live more then a couple of trips out, if that. I would have to recommend Alu. for frame material, seems to be the best choice that I have seen.

As for Trolling Motors, Yes, I have seen some great setups on the front, between the foot poles. I was in Utah at a lake called Strawberry Resevoir. (I think there is some stuff on Youtube about Strawberry). The guys there almost have to have one because of how bad the wind comes up there. It is a safety thing there. I havn't tried it, but there is really no stopping ones imagination, please post a picture when you have something setup.

What is the fishing like where you are?

To fish is to live!

Thank you for your reply.

Yes I had been considering sch40 pvc for the entire frame and accessories. I got the idea from looking at the several accessories people have added to their boats. Thought it would meet both my needs - easier than aluminum to build and would also make it lighter. I understand that it breaks down in UV light and becomes brittle - so painting is reccomended. Didn't know if anybody else had run into problems before? Just wanted to do some research before actually building.

Fishing here is great! Alot of ponds, lakes, reservoirs, and rivers to fish. I mainly fish for bass, but have run into great crapie and bream action. Many species to fish for to meet any anglers desire.
