If I feel it is safe I usually try to say something...I guess it all depends on the situation.

Poachers make all of us look bad, especially to the enviros.

Earlier this year, during the first major WSB flurry over at Anacapa, my fellow chartermembers and I witnessed a guy catch his limit (1 WSB), then keep fishing. We all told him that the limit was one, and he gave us "the bird"....Yes, we called the DFG, and no, nothing happened.

Then another time over at Catalina...my buddy and I were telling the above story to a few anglers the night before, THEN this older, salty guy (I think he was a deadhead) walked over and anounced to us all that he was planning on keeping as many WSB as he could physically catch, and that NOBODY better get in his way---and he looked DIRECTLY at my buddy and me. What a piece of work. I think the skippper heard our "conversation" because I didn't have to say anything; the next day he consistently checked everyone's sacks and was counting fish all throughout the day. The skipper made it clear to the entire boat that he was very aware of what the limit was, and that his boat was not going to violate it.
