3984, A sad day, and a friend that will be forever missed
Posted by Urban, Tue Apr-04-06 12:25 AM
I know this may not be the right place for this post, but I just have to express my sadness somewhere, and in a place that a great sportsman would appreciate.

One of my best friends passed away today. He was at a skiing competition in Idaho, and during a routine run back to the lift he hit a tree and died instantly.

Paul Gianera was without a doubt the best duck hunter Ive ever known, and he was without a doubt one of the most hardcore outdoorsman ever. The guy was on it big time. Paul was an amazing fisherman; you name it he caught it. In the last year I really revved him up on bass fishing, he lived next to Shasta. I was just at the point with him where I was gonna get him to start throwing swimbaits at Shasta. He also was the most giving and caring person Ive ever known; he would do anything for any of his friends.

Im still in shock, I just cant believe that Ill never spend another day in a duck blind with him, or spend another day catching kokanee with him (with me making fun of him all day long cause we were actually enjoying catching kokanee), or spend another day chasing albacore with him.

Enjoy each day with your friends; life is fragile and you never know when your last day afield with your best friend will be. I dont think Ill ever get over losing Paul as a friend.

When a close friend and fishing buddy passes it gives us pause to reflect on life and what our priorities should be. May his freinds and loved ones realize even a small portion of how he enriched their lives and their's his life.
Having been in shoes similar to yours, all I can suggest is remember him in the best possible light and go do something that you enjoyed doing together in remeberance (each year on his birthday makes a nice touch).
Tight lines,
Wade
