Hey Guys,
There's gonna be a meeting at the Fess Parker Inn, in Santa Barbara, on the 21st, this coming wednesday in regards to the proposed closures of the Channel Islands. I don't know ALL the details, but proposals will be given from noon to 6. 6-7 will be a break for dinner, 7-9 will be public comments. The harshest of the proposals will be 50% closure of the channel islands, including most if not all of Anacapa and San Miguel. Eagle's Rock will be closed, Becher's Bay, and I believe West end of Santa Cruz, among other areas. The "friendliest" proposal would be an 8% closure which pretty much leaves San Miguel and Anacapa alone, and closes a portion of the backside of Santa Cruz and Santa Rosa. We really need some recreational fishermen to step up here and let these guys know that we give a damn. If nobody shows up, nobody will know that recreational fishing is an issue. The more guys we can get voicing opinions the better. I'll be in attendance, and hope to see some calfishermen there too.

I read in the Santa Barbara paper that there was quite a turnout of fishermen at the meeting. It seemed to make an impression on the board that is making the recommendation about fish closures, at least they know that there are fishermen that are impacted. It seemed that they didn't have that impression before.
