John Strenk and I fished the SWBA's Round 3 "Ring Around The Islands" Bass tourney held at Long Beach Harbor Saturday on my 15 Gregor, Bassomatic. We drew Island Chaffee as our first stop and had a slow start on short bass but had better luck as the tide started to fill back in. We filled out a limit by our second stop which was Island White. Many fish were a solid 2 pounds and were really tight to the rocks. We fished 20# and 25# test so we had a chance of getting them out of the stones. Since anglers had to share the islands in rotation, you had to fish "used" water--there was no way around it. Our last stop, Island Freeman, was pretty hammered by the time we got to it. Our number one bait was an Assalt two-toned California Spyder Grub in the Rock Lobster color followed by their Skirted Ringer Worm in the same color. We caught around 30 fish total, mostly sandies with a couple spotties and a calico. Our bag was good enough for 2nd place. The event was really well run and a blast to fish.
