It was my pleasure to fish with Bayfisherlady and her good friend Monkey Mike today.

We spent the morning on the big water down South looking for yellow ones. We played with some boney ones and some barri ones. Small bonito by the 100’s.

Came back to SD bay for the second leg of our journey, which was to locate and extract some brown ones. In the process we caught tons of these.

I never connected with Brown Sugar. I am lame.

Fish Tale- Monkey Mike hooks up with what seems to be a nice fish. I grab Deena’s net which is a GIANT king salmon style landing net. Something like an over-sized novelty joke net. Mike is milking this fish up assuming of course, it is a big hali. Thoughts of batray enter the atmosphere. Suddenly the fish shows from under the boat. It is a HUGE halibuy way bigger than any hali I have ever seen. The sight of this fish blows me away. Now this giant net and standard size gaff look like tiny toys. Mike makes the first net pass. No freakin way. I tell Deena to get the gaff, the net’s not big enough. Now the plan is to get the head in the net and gaff it and try to lift together. Second net pass,…hali freaks out and I have to move the net. Mike get’s him up again. Third pass, net and gaff ready. Hali freaks out again and jumps half way out the water and OVER the net. Lines snaps! Bye Bye.
