Greetings to all local fishermen!

I just came back from a trip to Ketchikan, Alaska, loclly know as the salmon Capitol of the World. We went fishing on a small four pack boat named the Kristen Gabriel. Captain Rick was our host, www.rickscharters.com, and he took great care of us.

He used a 12 lb led weight on the outrigger to keep our lines at 60 feet of water. We used Hering tails as bait. We used heavier fishing poles, I used a large ugly stick, 20 lb test, a 12" spinner and a 20" leader with two hooks.

Captain Rick set up four poles on the out-riggers and in 4 hours of fishing, we managed to catch 4 Pink Salmon 5 to 12 lbs, 1 Chum Salmon, 18 lbs, and several undersized King Salmon. We saw several Bald Eagles and whales are the norm. At the dock I saw several fishermen who caught King Salmon. The largest on the dock was 35 Lbs and it was HUGE. The largest this season has been a 45 lber.

Overall, it was an excellent day and I would gladly fly to Ketchikan just to fishing for Salmon or Halibut. Captain Rick is a good guy and will take excelent care of you.
