5531, Newport Beach Perch Report 4/9/02
Posted by , Tue Apr-09-02 12:05 PM
This morning I shore fished the beach in front of the Newport Elementary school from 9:30 to 11:30. When I arrived there was a large flock of gulls and terns working the surf line. I assumed that they were eating small bait fish and thus tied on a 2” Pinns Minnow to my 6# line. The surf was small 1-2 feet, the water was clean and there was very little floating kelp. I was able to convince about a dozen perch to join me on the beach. The quality of the fish was to my experience was very good. The largest perch measured 15” (a personal best) and the others were between 10”-13”, all were very fat. All the fish were released to fight another day.
