Barred Perch have always been one of my favorites. As a matter of fact, a Bardie was the very first fish I ever caught as a youngster of 7 years old. Remember the day like yesterday. My Dad (gone now bless his soul) introduced me to saltwater fishing in 1959 on the Oceanside Pier. I was sooo proud of myself. Baited my own hook with a Razor Clam and casted the bait between the pilings underneath the second stantion about 100 yards out.

About five minutes later..WHAM!! That PERCH ...and I mean a real Toad! took me for my first ride as an angler and I will never forget it! My Dad measured him and he was 17"

I proba

bly could not tell you what I had for breakfast yesterday but I will always remember that Perch!

I still go to that place on that pier and say a little prayer for Pop. It has become a sacred place for me.

Tight Lines!
