Fished out of Dana Landing on the Fin Fever. We left the bait receiver at 9:30pm and headed south. The weather was GREAT! Man, it was really smooth--definitely not the typical weather for albie fishing.

Had a few cold ones, then hit the sack. I was awakened by the yell "HOOK UP!!!!!", then shortly followed by the sound of a long fin hitting the deck! I was getting dressed as fast as I could! It was a double hook-up on the troll. The skipper said that night we probably would get to the zone until about 8 or 9am--it was 6:30!

The fish didn't come to the boat, so we continued. About 20 mins later, HOOOOOK UP!. Again, nothing came to the boat so we move on. 30 mins later, HOOOOK UP!!!!!! Same story, nothing came to the boat. 15 mins later...you guessed it, HOOOK UP! OK, this time I get hooked up with the only bait fish @ 20lbs. Nothing else cooperates, so we go on the troll again. This is the drill for a while. I was getting 1 or 2 fish every stop.

It takes a while, but we get a triple hook up. This is when it gets good. WFO! BOILS everywhere! Every cast, BAM! Fish were all over the place! I started fish'n with 'dines....and WATCHING the albies come up to hit 'em! Your bait would hit the water, and it would be picked up almost immediately! We limited out in minutes! These were nice fish too, 25-30lb. Done fishing at 11am, and headed home (we were over 90 miles out).

Great fishing. Great boat. Great crew.

Nice report! I am heading out on the Pacific Queen on Saturday night for a 1.5 day trip... Hopefully the weather holds and the bites stays as it has been as of late. Question... what gear were you using? Lb test, reel etc... I am gearing up with a couple 25lb rigs and a 40.. maybe rent a 60lb setup in case we hit some big bluefin :P ... we'll see. Anyway, just curious...

I got the majority on a 8 1/2ft G-Loomis GL2 with a Shimano Calcutta 400 with 20# string w/flouro leader.

When the bite kept gett'n better, I switched to an Accurate 870 w/30# (Boat setup--the boat has all Accurates). I probably could have used 40 or heavier, but the 30# was right there so I grabbed it so I could get back in the water faster!

I tried flylining, and with a splitshot (hand-pinched on)--both worked equally as well.

Tell you what, that GL2 is bitchen! I have caught a lot of fish on that rod, and I love it! Same with the Calcutta! That is why I stayed with that setup so long, I love it!

JIGS
The smaller ones seemed to get bit more often. 2 stick out in my mind (keep in mind, I didn't troll at all) a Zuckers black and Red, and the other was a White feather--it looked like hell, and I would have put money down against that ugly white "thing".
