Only caught 4 fish this morning from my yak. 1 halibut, 2 calicos, and 1 rockfish. Tried both plastic and bounce balling with dead bait. The water was pretty clear and I think that put the fish off of the plastic bite although 2 of my fish bit on plastic. I can never remember when rockfish are or are not in season so I always end up releasing decent ones and find out later I could have kept them.

Reminds me that sometimes even the DFG can't interpret their own manual and answer specific questions regarding which fish are legal in what areas and at what time of year. No wonder I forget.

Do the Bacara people get pissed off or otherwise hassle you if you park there??

unfortunately it is a little walk to the beach now but it is worth it. do not let Bacara scare you. they have no right whatsoever to keep you out of that parking lot. if their security people try to intimidate you or try to get you to leave just call the police. that beach does not belong to them and part of the contract that allowed them to build that monstrosity was a promise to maintain beach access for the public (and provide the parking lot that they now seem to want to keep people out of.)

FIGHT THE POWER!

Nobody has ever hassled me in either of the public lots (now only one). If they did, I would just have fun with them and fish anyways, maybe scratching my sac and belching some on the beach too. Heh...nah. But I check the surf from their private parking lot sometimes and never have a problem...I just drive right on by the valets and shoo them away with a thoughtful hand gesture.

What you've heard is right, they HAVE to provide access to that beach. I haven't heard of anyone having problems with Bacara employees to date tho.

i've never been hassled myself but i've heard and read accounts of people getting hassled. i guess the security guys have tried to close the public lot early on occasion and apparently have threatened to lock people's cars in the lot if they don't leave immediately.

i would welcome the confrontation myself. i live for those moments when people are stupid enough to try to take away my rights to enjoy the beach. that drives me absolutely over the edge!
