The best Bonito fishing usually starts to materialize in October and just keeps getting better into November but then tails off quickly.

We used to have fantastic Bonito fishing and now it is only a mere memory with a small run and a few small fish caught at the given time. What a tragedy!! This is the fish that got me hooked on fishing when I was a boy and I miss having them around in the numbers like we used to enjoy them. They have started to appear on the scene again but they are under too much pressure from the Mexico seiners. It has nothing to do with El Nino or other variables. The biggest contributor was the intense harvesting of them a decade ago but they are starting to make a reasonable comeback.

As Bassnet mentioned these are relatively small fish in comparison to the fish you could count on seeing 10-20 years ago. Here is a pic of a typical small Bonito we caught 2 summers ago and the few Bonito we caught last summer were a bit bigger.
